Redskins vs. Patriots on 12/11/11
Um, in case anyone didn't know.
The Redskins played a game yesterday. Against one of the top teams in the AFC, and they gave them a heck of a game. Was pretty exciting until the very end, I was really pulling hard for Grossman to make the magic happen, but in the end NE held on.
Any skins fans see it?

Yeah, I saw it. Rexy looked solid. Helu was great - as usual. The patchwork O-line was better than I thought.
They definitely missed Davis, as they got no production from the TE position.
And, Brady now draws flags if you hit him while he's "preparing to slide." Spectacular.

They really did play some inspired football yesterday. I wish they had opened the playbook up earlier this season. At least the rookies are getting some valuable experience.
That penalty in Fletcher was absurd. Goodell needs to fine the ref. Notice how Brady picked up additional yards on his next scramble because he tippy-toed a's if he was going to slide, but kept going.

I love that this team is looking tough and getting great experience while moving up in the draft to put themselves in a position to get a QB. They are sitting at the fourth pick right now with an outside chance at the 2nd pick.

I didn't see any of the game since I had a concert performance yesterday, but I did listen to some of it in the car and caught some recap stuff.
Helu could be the best Redskins running back in a long time if he can keep up what he's been doing in recent weeks, and avoid the injury bug. I believe he's solidified his spot as next year's starter, barring anything unusual. Fletcher is on pace for a likely career high in tackles and yesterday logged his seventh double-digit tackle game. He's getting more tackle assists these days, but his solo tackle number remains high and could also approach a career high. Concerning that assist figure, he may have been the first to the ball carrier on quite a few occasions, knowing him, but I have no corroborating data. As usual, he should be a Pro Bowler, and I would have him in the starting lineup. Hopefully he won't be hosed as he has in many past Pro Bowls, and in yesterday's game on that personal foul call. Ridiculous....
It's hard for me to give Grossman much praise, as he was facing the league's worst defense. Let's not forget the early gift to New England that kept his turnover streak alive. A good quarterback would have been able to do more than he did yesterday, and the Redskins probably would have won the game. (Sums up so many games this season, doesn't it?)
The draft stock is looking pretty good for the 'Skins, and I'm hoping they can at least maintain that over the next few weeks. I'd hate to see them get too inspired and go on a tear when some good draft picks (early picks in every round are at stake, don't forget) could be on the horizon. Hoping for the best....

Oh, I also want to add that I believe that it's time to get out of the deangelo hall business. In fact, they need to have a few upgrades in the secondary.

I am not one to complain about the refs and I don't think they cost us the game (and if they did, I thank them), but the Fletchercall was terrible. Stolen from this thread [ExtremeSkins], here is the visual evidence.

So, I guess I could put this in the Fantasy Football thread but I'm seriously considering keeping Helu in a keeper league over Reshard Mendenhall. Mendhall only has value in that he'll get you 10 Tds a year. Other than that, he isn't good. Helu seems destined to be a top 10 fantasy back who will catch a number of balls out of the backfield as well as being a very good runner. The only thing that will at least make me think twice about it is how stupid Shanahan is about RBs.

^^^Helu has been encouraging. Three straight 100 yard games, can catch it out of the backfield. It'd be nice if they found themselves their mo-Jo drew/McCoy/rice.
A lot of their draft picks are showing well.
