It's the end to a trilogy.

So any future Batman movies are going to be made without Nolan and probably existing in a different franchise than the one in Begins, TDK and TDK Rises.

Basically that. It's an end to this story arch. Thus any new Batman movies will be a new story arch that has nothing to do with theses three movies. Sort of like the new Superman and Spiderman movies coming out. They will be new timelines or universes. That's basically how comics work. Heck Batman very well could die. He has died several times in his history through various timelines and universes.

If they're true to the comics, Bane cripples him.

I know that's a possibility, I'm not sure that's the route Nolan will go. If anything I could see an ending where Batman is gone, but Bruce Wayne is still around.

The trailer, which obviously could be misleading, makes it seem like Batman is defeated by Bane. He then recovers, inspired by Alfred, and despite being told by catwoman that he has already done enough for Gotham. I agree that it does seem like they want to end the Batman story, after Bane is defeated.

Or a Batman Beyond scenario with Bruce hanging it up much sooner.

I wonder if Joseph Gordon Levitt's character could be the next Nightwing?

Here's an article from the Washington Post about the latest trailer.

Superman has always been my favorite super hero, but the Batman movies are just better, IMO. The Michael Keaton film and all of the Christopher Nolan films have an element of realism that makes you feel like the plot could be real, which makes them more fun to watch than a guy flying around wearing tights.
