Early in the second half it's a tie game at 10, with the Redskins sending Adrian Peterson (left lower leg injury via DeJon Gomes) and Christian Ponder (concussion via London Fletcher) to the locker room after the half's opening series.
The Redskins follow up by squandering excellent field position, but still getting a 53-yard field goal from Graham "Oh No" Gano to go up 13-10.
The Vikings help the Redskins' draft hopes with a touchdown to take a 17-13 lead.
Jabar Gaffney makes a one-handed catch near the back of the end zone to put the Redskins up 20-17 with 5:57 left in the third. Great 43-yard return by Brandon Banks set up the drive after the Vikings' last score.
Where did all the defense go?
Webb to Rudolph for the touchdown, but Ryan Longwell misses the extra point wide right as the Vikings take a 23-20 lead.
As the penultimate quarter ends, the Vikings lead 23-20, with the Redskins driving at the Vikings' 28.
From right behind where Longwell missed the extra point, Gano supplies the Redskins with a 25-yard field goal to tie the game at 23, with 12:41 remaining in regulation.
The Vikings strike quickly with a touchdown from Webb to Harvin, taking a 30-23 lead with 10:06 left.
Can hardly walk away without one of the teams engineering a scoring drive...Vikings tack on a field goal after, of course, a Grossman pick at a critical juncture, to essentially ice the game. Redksins driving with the ball on their own 28 with just over four minutes left, second and two after an eight-yard pass to Stallworth, who was injured (ankle) on the play.
Gano connects to make it 33-26 with 1:25 left...onside kick coming, I assume....
So, not so much.
Vikings got the ball with 1:20 and used very little clock in their two runs plus backfield-downed option. Redskins will operate from their own 36 with 55 seconds left. Adios....
Sounds like a disaster of a game. I think it's best that we lost. I think we have the 7th pick and could move up with a Cleveland or Tampa win in the last week.
I dig it...they kept it close but still lost, which is the ideal outcome.
