Guy had an outstanding year but come on. Rodgers is the MVP. If Brees wins this it's a farce. Then again, you got some idiots who truly put out the idea that Peyton Manning should be the MVP this year.![]()
Manning of course shouldn't be MVP but it did expose how wrong the voters got it in several previous years where Peyton didn't get the award. This year proved beyond any doubt that no player is anywhere close to as valuable as he is to his team's success.
I do fear Bree's may get more of a bump than he otherwise would have had Flynn not looked so fantastic on Sunday.
Rodgers won exactly one more game than Brees this year. Brees broke generation old passing record. Rodgers had an unheard of TD/Int ratio. I think Rodgers should win it, but Brees is definitely in the conversation. If they split like Manning/McNair, so be it.
If I had votes, I'd go Rodgers, Brees, Brady, Calvin Johnson.
Not to mention the Packers didn't skip a beat with Rodgers out last Sunday as Flynn lit it up. Rodgers is incredibly accurate and would be good in any system, but let's not forgot he's in a pretty good system with some outstanding receivers up there. Brees definitely should be in the conversation but overall, Rodgers probably deserves it.
Either could win and neither would be wrong.
On Rodgers side, he didn't have bad losses where he performed poorly...that should be enough to give it to him unless you split the award.
HOWEVER, you have to look at what Flynn did and ask yourself this question....Are the Packers a playoff team with him? Now, are the Saints a playoff team without Brees? I tend to think the Packers are much better off with Flynn than NO is with Chase Daniel. Now, whose fault is that? Its not Rodgers' fault that GB has a stronger back up.
But, the award is for MVP. Take player X off of his team and how does his team perform.
I get the logic behind the argument, but there's no way you can qualify that statement...unless Manning comes back with the same exact team next year and turns them into a winner again. For all we know, this could have been a bad season for the Colts even if Manning was healthy and playing well.
Agreed with this. I'm a Packers fan so I obviously want Rodgers to win the MVP (and think he should). Brees had a great season as well and would be MVP any other year. Rodgers had the highest season QB rating ever. He only had 2 games where he was under 100for passer rating, only 4 games where he was under 112, and 6 games over 130.
I like Matt Flynn and think he will be a good QB for someone next year...and he's been able to come into a couple of games over the past few seasons and play very well. And I think if Matt Flynn had to replace Rodgers that it would be like a Tom Brady situation. They would still probably be a playoff team but wouldn't be 15-1. I think Flynn's performance on Sunday was more of an exposing of the Detroit Lions rather than what's to come from a full season of Matt Flynn at QB.
Also (and this isn't directed at you SG), let's not act like Brees doesn't have a strong supporting cast either. He has a great running game, some fantastic receivers and one of the best TE's in the game.
Brees's weapons are just as good. He's got just as many receiving weapons and he has a better running game. ALso, Brees played 11 of his games indoor this year which certainly helps in regards to passing numbers. Rodgers had better numbers across the board outside of yards. He would have had more TD passes if he had not only played Week 17 but had actually not been pulled from some blowouts during the year.
Using Flynn's performance to justify taking votes away from Rodgers is bogus. Does anybody really believe if the roles are reversed and he is in New Orleans and plays for Brees this past Sunday against Carolina that he doesn't do his best Brees impression.
Again, Brees had a tremendous year as did Brady. Both deserve some consideration but this is a pretty easy vote for me. People like to overthink things and let little things influence the big picture in way too many of these things. It's like the people who start to question taking RG3 or someone else over Luck. No, stop overthinking it and draft the polished sure thing.

Brees set records for yards and completion percentage. To give him the MVP isn't wrong.
A Bree's and Harbaugh hater.....![]()
I will say, if you're a Brees or a New Orleans fan, there is no reason his supporters shouldn't advocate for it. It's not an open and shut case, the ambiguity of MVP never helps that either. But to say his supporters shouldn't support him is a bit extreme, no?
And honestly someone else said this later down the thread, I don't think the weapons in NO are nearly as good as those in GB.
I disagree. Rodgers reiciving corp might be a little better though Colston, Moore, Meachem, Henderson, Graham, and Sproles is pretty nasty as receivers. However, when you consider the running game Brees has and the fact that he plyed 11 games indoors that at least evens out the difference in receiving weapons.
This is one of those rare times where I don't believe there is a clear-cut MVP favorite. In my mind the two of them are as close to 50/50 as possible.
As an aside, it's sort of a shame that the NFL MVP Award has come down to "who was the best quarterback this year." Obviously, this year a quarterback should win it, but this is not always the case. Who was the last non-qb to win the award? Tomlinson?
Brees had a better completion %...800 more yards and 1 more TD. He set records for 300 yard passing games.
To say he doesn't deserve it is an absurd and wrong statement. To act as if giving it to him over Rodgers is some travesty is ridiculous.
I tend to think the award should be split or Rodgers should win it but the argument is without question out there for Brees to be the winner.
