As someone else said, Rodgers shouldn't be punished for having Flynn on the bench.

Think about it this way: say the backup QB for every single team is Kyle Boller. We'll call him a "replacement level" QB.
Agreed. Except if we are talking about replacement level, let's go with Mark Bulger circa 2010.

    No sense at all.

If Brees was the better offensive player than he would also be the more valuable player.

I think the voters believed that Brees was better offensively, but Rodgers made so many open field tackles on special teams put him over the top for MVP.

MVP and OPOY is just never given to the same person anymore. Would love to know the last time it happened and how many times it's ever happened period.

I somewhat understand it if voters think the MVP is basically the best QB on a playoff team so they reward a RB or WR for the OPOY award, but if both guys play QB on really good teams, it doesn't make sense imo.

I was actually wrong. It happens more often than I thought.

    '07, '10- Brady won both
    '06- Tomlinson won both
    '05 Alexander won both
    '04 - Manning won both

It does seem like giving Brees the OPOY was a compromise as it was in '08 when Brees won the OPOY and Manning the MVP. I also agree that it doesn't make any sense.
