Looks like Cubs trying for Malholm, says MLBTR.

Since everyone is making their "projected" rotations with what we have now, I will go with....

    1. Guthrie
    2. Britton
    3. Arrieta
    4. Chen
    5. Eveland

That would put Matusz, Tillman, and probably Bergy in AAA. It puts Simon in the bullpen. It puts Wada and Hunter battling for a bullpen spot or AAA. Wouldn't be surprised to see Wada, Hunter, Simon, or Eveland in that last spot but I don't see how Guthrie, Arrieta, Britton, or Chen miss the rotation if they all are on the team.

Wada in AAA? I'm sure he'll love that.

This is nice to see. I like that Matusz isn't a sure bet to make the rotation. Never really was high on Tillman, I don't expect much from him at all.

Wada and Chen will be in the initial starting rotation.

I believe other than Britton, any starter with an option will start in the minors.

Yeah you can make a case for both Matusz and Arrieta to start in the minors. With Arrieta, you want to see the elbow hold up and see if he has more control. Although I could see Arrieta coming out of the bullpen to start the year.

Is our 40-man maxed out? Will this signing require a DFA? If so, who do you think goes? Bell? Vandenhurk?

I could see Wada in the rotation or in the bullpen. I think a rotation of Guthrie - Britton - Arrieta - Chen - Wada would be interesting.

I still think Simon deserves a rotation spot. I loved what he did last year in the rotation, but it looks like he may need to start out in the bullpen.

The deal w Chen, 26, is believed to be a 3year deal -- tho possible that 3rd year kicks in as a vesting option.

Yes, the Peterson Principle looms large in this equation.

Don't think I like the idea of a 3 year deal.

Assuming no trades, I think you're looking at Guthrie, Britton, Chen in the rotation for sure, with Wada given a spot unless he looks totally awful in ST.

I would like to see Arrieta given that 5th spot, but I guess it will depend on his health.

    The Dutch one.

We still need depth at the corner positions.

    4. Wada
    5. Britton
