Anybody check this show out last night? I watched the 2 hour premiere which was actually two separate episodes. Not sure what I think of it so far, there's some corny stuff in there, but it also has a bit of a Lost feel to it with the way they had a couple of O Crap moments. I'm not sure if I can take Jorge Garcia (Hurley!) serious as a doctor but I'll give it a whirl. Sam Neil is great as the shady/mysterious guy who clearly has his own agenda. I'll probably watch a few more episodes before deciding if I want to make this show a regular.
Seemed contrived and forced as well as a bit silly.
Too much a suspension of disbelief needed for me. The former inmate had been out of the real world for 50 years yet he appeared to have no problems at all dealing with the modern world. The audience is supposed to believe that 300 inmates vanished and no one questioned it?
Napoleon Dynamite was better.
I watched the first hour. I did not watch the second hour, and I don't plan on spending any more time on it. Felt too silly, the writing wasn't very good, and it just felt like it was misfiring to me.
I liked the juicy blonde but that was it - muted it and that worked. Not believable for me....
I don't find it believable, but it's science fiction, so I don't expect it to be realistic. I thought it was interesting, and I like the characters enough to keep watching. It's basically a cop show with an underlying backstory that will be uncovered as the series plays out. Personally...that's good enough for me as long as the characters make it worth watching. Luckily I never watched Lost, so Garcia isn't ruined for me.
This.
I enjoyed it enough for what it is, and I agree with Bob, the blondie is a hottie.
What kills me is, Fox canceled the highly successful 24 because they said it was too expensive to make, but then they come up with that stupid and VERY expensive dinosaur show last year and now this? I'd think their money would have been better spent keeping 24 around. Fox reminds me of the Orioles...the premium talent they deem too expensive (24) so they give us shows that cost nearly as much but aren't nearly as good.
Why do you bring up 24 in every discussion of an unrelated show? I liked 24 as much as anyone, but it was on for eight seasons and was clearly running on fumes at the end. The show was cancelled because the 24 writers admitted they couldn't come up with a decent idea for any more seasons. It ended at the right time, and besides, it's still going to live on in movie form. Let it go. Other shows are allowed to exist.
I watched it. I'll probably continue to watch it because I don't have anything else to watch on Mondays, but I'm still wary of it. Looking at future episodes, it appears that every episode will be dedicated to capturing one Alcatraz inmate.
Someone mentioned it before but I am also curious how an inmate (who has disappeared for 50ish years) is able to walk around and be normal in a technology-rich world without any problems. Hopefully they'll explain more of the sci-fi in future episodes.
Alcatraz is starting to bore me. I'll give it another week or two, but if this is just another crime show with a back story, I will pass.
Lady: I heard a bank was robbed last night by a guy wearing a brown shirt.
Hugo: Dude, like, did you like just say a brown shirt? Whoa, that's like Jimbob Smith, prisoner 2315! We gotta stop him!
Also, apparently every criminal at Alcatraz was some sort of poet or performance artist that committed crimes in the same exact way every time to reveal some hidden message. So cliche.
