My wife and I are having "MoMo" identical twin boys

I'm not sure how many of you noticed, but I haven't been too active recently. Around August 15th or last year, my wife and I found out we were having twins. In October, we found out we were having identical twin boys. And in November, we found out that twins were actually Monoamniotic (MoMo) twins.

There's a much more detailed definition on Wikipedia, but the base definition is rather simple: the boys are not separated by anything (typically, identical twins are separated by a thin membrane). As such, this rare condition is extremely high risk since they have to deal with issues such a cord compression, cord entanglement and twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome.

The good news is that we've made it to 28 weeks with limited cord entanglement. The doctor believes limited cord entanglement is a good thing since it will decrease their ability to move around. My wife is currently at GBMC as they're doing tests on her and the boys four times a day. They expect the boys to be born in a few weeks if there aren't any complications. If they run a test and don't like the results, they will consider delivering them then.

My wife has been writing a blog with the hope that others will be able to benefit from it (http://mymomoboys.blogspot.com). MoMos are quite rare (as rare as 1 in 60,000 births), and other than stories, there isn't too much out there. Even our doctor is going off of studies consisting of 100 or so cases. It has been an incredibly stressful journey.

The boys at their first trimester scan.

Ditto. I would assume that the boys will have a close relationship growing up?

It seems pretty likely. We've read some articles about identical twins and their close relationships. Thanks Dipper.

Haha. We have a short list of names, but we're still undecided as of right now. My wife was a preschool teacher before her doctor told her to stop and a lot of the kids in her class suggested names like, "Ed and Reed", "Ray and Lewis" and "Superman and Spider-Man."

Congrats again of course. I would name them William and Robert Bauer, because Billy and Bobby Bauer just sound like baseball players!

I could see Billy Bauer and Bobby Bauer batting balls for the Bowie Baysox. Although I would like to offer up Mookie and Mo Bauer for consideration.

Along those lines, my cousin's names for twins are Billiam and Bobert. I will now pass you this suggestion to dispose of as you see fit.

    Congrats and good luck!

I'm happy for you both and will be sending you all positivity and praying for their good health. Let me know if I can do anything to help.
