Hi all . I have a turntable (Technics SL-1200 mkll) that I bought new about five years ago.
In that time , I've accumulated about 500 LPs.
While spinning records requires more time and commitment than other formats what with setting up the table , aligning cartridges , cleaning albums ,etc. , I find it quite enjoyable .
I'm curious if any other OHers spin records and if so , on what and how often ?
I love crate digging and finding good music very inexpensively.
Most of my albums I have were purchased used , in VG/VG+ or better condition though I have about 10 I purchased new. Foo Fighters -Wasting Light sounds great on vinyl!!
Thanks for any replies ,
Russ
I miss the sound of dropping the needle on the record.
Have not had a turn table since 87.
I haven't owned one since about 1987, either. Just curious...how do you hook up speakers to a turntable now? The only ones I've used before were a component to any other stereo system.
Sorry if that sounds like a dumb question!![]()
Some newer TTs have built in phono preamp . Otherwise , it is still the same . You could also use a phono preamp into a headphone amp and listen through headphones. I don't use it through the computer , but you could also run the TT through a standalone phono preamp then through your sound card.
clapdiddy, there are no dumb questions.
I have one but can't use it. TT's fine. But my amp is..... possessed. I don't dare even turn it on. Start a fire.
Nice table too! Linear tracking. No adjustments needed. My component system ROCKED back in the day. The speakers were right beside the rack. So if you cranked the amp the turntable arm would feed back. It was bizarre! Not as pleasant as like Jimi feeding back tho. Sounded pretty nasty, really!
Anyways, I have about 8 feet of albums. Don't know how many... GOOD stuff you guys would all love! I try to post the good stuff when I find it online.![]()
I wanted to get into it last year so I bought a turntable off line and got like 10-12 records. The turntable was a dud so I was a little disappointed but my future father-in-law is also into records (and he's also a bit of a hoarder), so he gave me one of his turntables. I think it's an Aiwa or something like that but it works great. It's automatic which is nice and it plays the records very good.
I've kind of gotten out of it recently because I don't have a good place in the house to listen to records besides my office. I got a pre amp adapter to connect it to my surround sound, but I just haven't gotten around to actually doing it. My fiance has a thing about things like records, CDs, DVDs, etc being on display...haha.
I do enjoy shopping for used records and I got a bunch from my future father-in-law, as he has duplicates, triplicates, etc of a lot of things. I probably have 70 LPs altogether. It's definitely a neat sound and you can find a lot of rare stuff that never made it onto CD (or has been out of print for years).

I have a Numark turntable that i purchased about two years ago and still use. I have around 40 LP's to go with it, including older classic rock/blues, as well as newer indie stuff.
There's something truly agreeable about analog sound that CD/MP3 can't replicate.
VPI with a Grado cartridge here. VPI record cleaner too which comes in handy.
