You can get another all purpose back like Rice.

By the time the 2013 season comes around, he will have had roughly 1600 touches in his career...that's a lot of times getting hit...and btw that doesn't include all of his postseason stats either and he has been in the playoffs every year of his career, for multiple games.

I would trust him to be a great all around back for another 2 seasons, IE 2013 and 2014 and that assumes he stays injury free, which of course is far from a sure thing. Can we get him to sign a team friendly deal that doesn't effect the cap in a major way starting in 2015 and for the next few years after that?
Yeah....why don't we wait and see what kind of deal the man gets before we say he's going to be a huge cap liability. I think if we can front load a deal early and get his cap number down late he can be a good signing. I also think Rice will age well. He doesn't take a lot of abusive hits, and can be a really good 3rd down back. I worry more about guys like Turner, Lynch, McGahee types that will probably just hit a will. Rice's size and quickness really help lighten the load he's taken as a back compared to those guys.

The thing is you can be more creative with a back and how you sign them. With OL I think they want paid the max right away. They know their careers are shorter and their ability to make money in other ways is limited. I think there is a better chance to sign Rice to a team friendly deal than Grubbs is more of what I'm trying to say.

He hasn't taken alot of hits, yet. The thing that really concerns me is that they use him sooo much between the tackles. All it would take is one of those huge lineman to fall on him the wrong way and thats it. Rice's game is all quickness and burst, he loses a fraction of a step and he's an ordinary back.

I'd feel much better about Rice's future if he was utilized more in space and isolation and less up the middle.

The Ravens won't do that, so who cares what we think?

He should be resigned to what they both feel is a fair offer. They will make it work under the cap.

The team needs Grubbs. Flacco still has one year left on his contract. Sign Grubbs and begin negotiations with Flacco whose cotract would begin in 2013. It is essential that there be a solid Offensive Line which makes the quarterback even better. It would appear that Flacco would want that.

It's not a question of what this team needs. This team needs a playmaking safety to replace Ed, a quality MLB to play next to Ray next year. We need a better NT to help Ngata make more plays. We need a serious threat opposite of Suggs. We need a LT as much as need a LG.

All teams have needs in the NFL in the salary cap era. The discussion is what kind of cap number is Grubbs worth and what that can do to the rest of the team. If the guy gets a contract that makes his cap number anything more than 6.5 mill on any other team, I really don't think he's worth trying to keep around.

I think there is a cap number on Rice too. But I think it fluctuates a bit more. If it can be high early and low late in the contract it's something that would be worthwhile.
