I actually like this move assuming they are using him mostly as a DH as Duq said and if they use him primarily against righties. If he can continue to hit righties like he has the past two years (.869 OPS) or even just to his career level (.817), he will be valuable. Just don't let him play against lefties much or play the field much. It's great that he can play almost any position in a pinch, but we don't want him playing the field consistently.

Good signing at that price. This will give us something to banter about at the trade deadline. Hopefully he crushes the ball up to that point.
His career at OPACY: 364/400/515/915

Solid utility player. Hard to disagree with this signing.

On, Base, Percentage. He said he was going to get some. The alternative was 6.5 for Damon, who is ONLY a DH. Good value signing that gives us part of what we needed. At age thirty, the three million can be applied as this year's payrool number an he is free for next season if we wish to drop him. There is no buyout, only a vesting option.
Essentially BROB numbers without the steals. Defensively very similar.

The option is really interesting on this deal... Reportedly it is $3.25m for two years and if he has 700 AB's the third year kicks in at $3.2m. Has anyone ever heard of that kind of deal? (Especially that sort of percentage.)

450 PA of an 800 OPS vs righties is not completely worthless. From what I've read (Twitter is just the worst for trying to understand a situation), he's getting 2 years and 3M with some combination of a vesting third year and incentives that could bring the total contract to 3 years and 6M.
I am completely neutral on this deal. But, like, why? Why do it? I don't understand.
