For some reason I was thinking he played 2B more than he did. Good call. If that's the case, are we looking to hold Betemit on board as a utility infielder, mostly at the corners? Some pinch hitting/DH duties?

Bah. Seems like this sure kills any chance at Fielder, not that there was one before I suppose. Is he our DH?

Betemit is an awful fielder, especially at 3B/SS, and won't be getting that many starts in the field, IMO. He will be primarily a DH option and an ocassional fill in for the IF.

He's a decent bat signed for nothing. I don't mind it.

Actually like this move, and good to see Duquette keeping his word about adding OBP guys.
It's refreshing to not hear "We're hoping he has a bounceback season" like MacPhail had ringing in our ears during his whole tenure

Betemit is listed as a third baseman. I think he will go into the mix as our DH.

He can stand on third base, and hits righties to the tune of .292/.363/.486 from 2009-2011. He's the corner IF backup/righty platoon with Davis.
What this really does, barring injury, is squeeze Flaherty off the roster.

He's a solid bat, no doubt. It's just kinda curious.
