For those who haven't been following, the Minnesota Vikings are, as of right now, without a stadium lease for the 2012 season. They want to build a new stadium with a combination of public and private money in the suburbs of the Twin Cities--Arden Hills--but nothing has been finalized.
There is also a plan to allow the team to play for multiple seasons at the new UMinn stadium (where they played their game after the Metrodome caved) while the old stadium is demolished and a new stadium built on the site. This is the plan the Vikings least like, but is the one that will be supported by the governor as the legislative session opens.
All of this is important because of the looming specter of Farmers Field and the unnamed City of Industry stadium each coming closer to reality in Los Angeles. The Vikings have been a candidate to move for most of the last decade, and now there literally is nothing standing in their way outside of whether or not they want to try and stay in Minnesota.
The deadline to get approval from the league for relocation is February 15. So this could be an interesting three weeks in Minnesota.
Which plan gets approved by the legislature, if any?
Which plan will the Vikings approve?
Will an agreement be in place for a short-term lease, in the Metrodome or TCF Bank Stadium, so the Vikings can either continue to negotiate a plan or get a completed plan rolling?
Will the Vikings actually apply for relocation, to Los Angeles or elsewhere?
What will Marshall Eriksen do to tailgate at his father's grave next year?
So many questions?
Vikings aren't going anywhere.
