Trade deadline is today at 3:00 p.m. lets see what if anything GMGM does. The two wins over the weekend were badly needed (I'd like to see Neuvy get a few more starts in goal)and despite the Caps inconsistent play are still in it as far as the playoffs go, although I'm not sure of what kind of run they can go on if they don't get Backstrom back.

The Caps just placed Backstrom on the LTIR, I smell some moves coming. We have to add some more offense to make a legit push

The problem was in the offseason with the moves I said I hated at the time..signing Ward and Vokoun. There went around $5m in cap space for a 4th line RW and a malcontent cancer in the dressing room. They could have played Aucoin, Beagle, or any number of AHL guys in that spot and brought in a cheap backup for Neuvy and we'd be a better team, promise you that.

At the end of the day though, none of that matters now. This team is not changing, and the team - as it currently stands - does not appear good enough to make any real noise. They have a lot of pieces, but they don't seem to fit together. And, they decided to do nothing to correct that. Pretty disappointing.

It's still good enough to win, it's funny that people completely write off a great team when it's under-performing. Most of the key pieces haven't been healthy together all year, and if they find a way INTO the playoffs they will be dangerous. You're right, there are a bunch of pieces don't fit, BUT teams have gotten through worse and won titles before. Just a matter of enough of a run to get into the playoffs and you could see something interesting.

I feel like I keep thinking that they can be dangerous, and they never really show me anything. They've been a continued disappointment this season that really haven't shown any meaningful potential outside of the 7 game win streak to start the season. I really don't this group has the cohesiveness and mental toughness to get the job done.

Boring game, but the Caps had a hell of a come back with 3 minutes left to score 3 unanswered goals a win 3-2 in OT. This is a game we needed as we started a 5-game home stand, and Florida had already picked up two points. Caps now find themselves as the #8 seed, up a point over the Jets and having played 2 more games so far.

Two years ago the Flyers didn't clinch a playoff spot until the final game of the year when they beat the Rangers in the SO to eke out the last playoff spot over NY by a single point and then went all the way to the Stanley Cup finals. Allstar is right, just get to the dance and anything can happen, especially if Backstrom can play in the playoffs. I kind've like the idea of going in as the #8 seed with a potential matchup with the Rangers, how great would that be to knock them out yet again!

How good can this team be if they just sit down all of the cancerous pieces and play some of the young players over them? It may not be ideal, but it could help. I know that's somewhat of a a no-no in hockey, but it's kind of do-or-die time now.

I think there are some $$$ reasons why things haven't gone better (they refuse to look like they got egg on their face for making a couple STUPID moves) and any coach is going to have a problem when the FO basically says you have no choice but to play these guys. SOME people that will remain nameless were being played when they didn't deserve it, hoping to drive up their trade value on the off chance they could have moved them. Don't know why they didn't pull the trigger on Vokoun, I think they were very close, but then they got 0 offers on Ward.
I think you see a little bit of a different team for the rest of the season. People realizing how much of a failure they are if they miss the playoffs. I THINK Nicky will be back right before the playoffs IF they are in position to make it, but they won't rush him to try.

This team is a joke. No leadership. No heart. No consistency.
