Haha, yeah, that wasn't even close to hitting the rim.

    Wow, that's ugly.

Slightly off topic, I just don't get how some NBA players can be such poor FT shooters. The big guys I understand since they're not shooters. But, there are so many G's and F's that are poor FT shooters. I wasn't a good shooter by any stretch of the imagination, but I was consistently an 80%+ FT shooter. I had no expectation to play college basketball, but I'm a much better FT shooter than so many quality NBA players. It can't be b/c of lack of practice (at least I wouldn't think so), so why can these guys play at such a high level at most other aspects of the game and be so poor at something that people with no talent can do regularly.

Anyway, I probably sound a lot older than I am.

I went to the Pocono 5 Sar Basketball game when I was a kid. There was a FT expert there who spent half the day teaching us to how to make our FTs.

He told us that those of us who had big hands would always struggle to make FTs and that we would have to continually practice. For those we normal sized hands he said to grab a softball and try to make FTs with it. Unless you continually practice making your FTs, the big handers are going to struggle.

Guys with big hands really should shoot underhand. But it doesn't look cool, so no one will do it.

This sort of reminds me of a time when we were playing a pick-up game in our church gym. We were in HS at the time, and a friend of mine was actually a decent player who played on the HS team. He had a fast break, had an uncontested lay-up, and with absolute beautiful form took a shot that barely grazed the bottom of the net. I don't know if it just rolled off his fingers or what. The game had to be delayed for a few minutes because we were all laughing too hard to play.

I agree. No one was cooler than Wilt and he did the granny shot.

I buy that to a certain extent. It's obviously hyperbole as the difference in balls is too drastic. In addition, these guys are using these hands for everything, so they're more used to the size.

Absolutley true. I'm a pretty good driveway FT shooter. Probably would be in the 80% range. However, give me a girls basketball and my % probably dips into the 60% range. Your hand in relative size to the ball makes a huge difference..

But if you always used a girls ball, don't you think you'd be around 80%?

I could improve but I'll always believe I would shoot better with a men's ball. I can feel that my hand engulfs the girls ball too much. Like I'm around the ball instead of behind it. Hopefully that makes some sort of sense. I've even tried putting the girls ball at the very tips of my fingers, shot putting it ala Shaq, etc but I can never get comfortable. Shooting is a lot about comfort and of confidence.

Yeah, I definitely get what you're saying, but I think once you're used to that size difference it shouldn't be an issue at all. So, you should eventually be comfortable.
