    Receivers impact on QB's

I know this is a reactionary thread but here we are after another great catch by a Giants wideout helps to them to a Super Bowl win, similar to 4 years ago. NE had receivers not make plays late in the game as well. Roethlisberger already had a ring prior but he played poorly in that Super Bowl and the Holmes catch in the endzone was an all-timer 3 years ago.

Two seasons in a row the Ravens receivers didn't make plays late. Boldin could have caught the pass in Pittsburgh last year and of course Evans this year. Eli Manning is a 2 time Super Bowl MVP and Joe Flacco and the Ravens can't get over the hump. Any sport you can say this but a play here or there changes everything.

In this offensive era we can win with the team we have now and our current receivers aren't poor but having another playmaker at the wideout position could be the final piece to putting a ring on Flacco and the Ravens.

It is amazing how a few crucial plays here and there can drastically change the perception of players in the NFL, in particular QBs. Lets take for example Eli who without question had a terrific year this year. I'm not trying to take anything away from him. However, in the SuperBowl 4 years ago you had a Pat DB drop an Int(forget who it was) on the same drive that we had the Tyree catch, which of course was an amazing play in itself. Tonight, you had Welker drop a pass that he catches 90% of the time that would have allowed NE to run at least 2 more min off the clock and kick a FG, and maybe run out the whole clock. Then of course you have the outstanding Manningham catch a few plays later. Sure, Eli still had to finish the drives in both games but there are 4 crucial plays I just named in both games that make a huge difference. Now, Eli is a 2 time SB winner, already I've heard people say he is a HOF QB. A few plays go differently and the whole body of work of Eli's career without the 2 rings and everybody is laughing at the notion of him in the HOF.

What's funny is that Brady going to draw a lot of criticism. Fans are going to combine this week and his performance against the Ravens as some sort of evidence that he's good when it matters.

He probably will which while of course it is crazy one might also say the pendulum swings back into a state of equilibrium when it comes to his rep considering the rep he had after his earlier SB wins.

This is nothing new. Eli's receivers have been making him look great all season. Don't get me wrong, Eli makes the passes that need to be made, puts the ball where it needs to be, but the receivers have been doing that all season. Guys like Cruz and Nicks, especially.

It is a stark contrast to our receivers, and more specifically, the kind of offense we run. Our WR's rarely catch balls while running in space. Guys like Cruz can catch a 6 yard pass and take it 50+ yards for a TD, racking up Eli's stats and making him look even better.

And they actually hold onto the ball when they catch it.*

    * - still sticking with the Evans drop as more of a good/flukey play by Moore.

    Tom Brady being protected

"You (have) to catch the ball when you're supposed to catch the ball," she is heard saying. "My husband cannot [expletive] throw the ball and catch the ball at the same time. I can't believe they dropped the ball so many times."
Get her in touch with Lee Evans! Though I wouldn't mind being yelled at by her.

Well there is no doubt in my mind that had the Ravens played the Giants last night they would not only have won, but won big. They have the corners to match up with the Giants and no way they run the ball. And besides the front four, which would have given the Ravens offensive line some fits, the Giants defense is not that good. I think we would have pounded the rock to slow down the pass rush and play actioned all over them.

Back to the OP, the Ravens are clearly the 2011 SB champions if Lee Evans makes a much simpler catch than the one David Tyree made!!!
