If they think he can do it great. I'm more worried about McKinnie and the presumption that he'll be our starting LT next year.
Reid being able to transition to G would be great for the cap because he's very affordable. As much as I hope that we can create some cap space through extensions to keep Grubbs it just seems like too tall of a task.

The plus of having McKinnie as our LT next year is that he should be relatively cheap for a left tackle. You know his play will be inconsistent but given what LT's get paid, I'd take Big Mac and that cap friendly number he probably signs for over the alternative.

We need to add a pass rusher to bookend with Sizzle and we could really use a big WR. Someone that can be a red zone target and can beat CBs in man to man coverage because getting separation is the biggest shortcoming for this receiving corps.

I believe his number is $2.2 million

Per rotoworld, it's going to be $4.2

That's getting into slightly uncomfortable territory for me. I would prefer he be at the 2.2 number you mentioned. Maybe he'd be open to long term deal and we can get his cap number down?

Honestly I didnt really care for the year he had. The only value he had for me is that he was cheap. I personally wouldn't sign him long term. I don't even think he's middle of the pack and the weight issues seal it for me.

According to sport trac his contract number was

    7.5 million

3.5 last season and 4.0 million next season.

This....cheap and serviceable good....long term bad. McKinnie's conditioning and ability to play well consistently are red flags IMO.

With the money that we have tied up in Oher and Yanda, along with needing to fill C and LG (most likely), cheap may be all we can afford. I agree with you, not over the moon about McKinnie, he was inconsistent at best. Maybe with on offseason of OTAs and conditioning, he could be more serviceable this upcoming season.

It's also about what's out there. There aren't a ton of viable options at LT. In a specific vacuum I don't want McKinnie back. But depending on how the whole team picture breaks down is much more important IMO.

I agree. The salary cap forces your hand and we have needs at interior OL, line backer, DE and we need to address depth. I'd like to see us get better at C and hopefully, as you mentioned earlier, Reid can play G because that's a very cheap option. In that scenario, I'd just stick with McKinnie because he's a path of least resistance option.

If Reid can move successfully I'd rather go out and try and use the Grubbs money to bring in Demetrius Bell from Buffalo. But other than that, I'd be fine with any of it.

With Lewis/Reed contracts being close to coming off the books there is room to use most of our cap space.

I just tend to oppose the notion of doing what's easiest because it's easy. Then again I do think a full offseason, OTAs and another year in the system will help McKinnie be a bit more consistent.

Of course when I wrote this I forgot all about 1996 Jonathan Ogden.
