The way this guy is being talked about it starting to annoy me. According to some in the media, this guy is already a HOF'er and it's legitimate to ask who's better between he and his brother.
Such overrating going on.
E-Lie had a great year and was on the Super Bowl winning team.
Butt, when you read comments saying that he is so elite now he is better than Brady, Rodgers and Brees its beyond ridiculous. I read somewhere that a sports writer thought Eli had made the best pass he had ever seen in a Super Bowl.
Prior to this year E-Lie has mostly been a goof ball. He needs to duplicate this kind of season before he can be considered truly elite, or even the mention of the HOF.
This E-Lie, elite talk is getting to be almost as ridiculous as all the Tebow hysteria we witnessed this season.
Yeah, 2 rings have to count for something. But only 1 great year has to count for something. And not playing that well in the 1st title has to count for something.
Saying he's a HOF QB and up there or maybe even better than his brother is the simplest of analysis that basically boils it down to if a QB is a two time SB champ, he's a HOF'er and a great QB regardless of just about anything else.
Are there any 2 time SB winning qbs not in the HOF (excluding Big Ben)? IMO, the HOF talk is somewhat legit. I don't think he's anywhere close to Peyton. I'd have him ranked as the 4th best active qb though (not including Peyton as active here) with him moving closer to the big 3 and pulling ahead from the rest of the pack.
Of course this is what the topics are going to be right after the Giants win. Had Gronkowski catch that deflection, then all the talk would be about how that was the greatest game ever and Brady v Montana.
Plunkett. Yeah, it's legit because there are a lot of people who apparently don't care about teammates, and stats/ how one plays. Basically they don't care about any reasons why a team may win that has little to nothing to do with their QB. They just care about 2 rings. So yeah, when people think like that, he's a legit candidate.
He's also only 31. Dude has a lot more career left in his future, and the Giants are always a contending team.
I love how Eli's success makes your skin crawl and gets you worked up
Rightly or wrongly, qbs get the credit for a team's success and take the blame fir their failures. At every turn you knock Eli and give the credit to the rest of the team. On offense, his running backs were bad and ranked towards the bottom in ypc, their TE is not noteworthy, would probably be the last one chosen in the NFCE. Their game changing WR was passed over 224+ times when he came out. Their defense was bad at the beginning of the season a's it adjusted to injuries but came together at the end. His O-line is very good.
It's not so much Eli, it's the awful analysis imo.
I'm not knocking Eli and giving credit to his team in all cases. I give him credit for having a great year, he also played very well in this SB. But this has been his only great year, and he still wasn't one of the best 3 QB's in the league by any stretch of the imagination.
I'm simply saying the teammates and circumstances matter. I know someone will be saying their if's for a reason or something, but I find it to be ridiculous that Eli wouldn't be considered anywhere near a HOF level QB if Asante Samuel catches this INT or if Tyree doesn't make an incredible catch on the next play, and if Welker would have caught that ball.
Or if the Giants D didn't do such a good job in both games.
Of course all of that matters. If there's no tuck rule and McNabb doesn't spaz out, Brady only has one ring. He'd definitely be considered a great qb, but wouldn't be in the conversation for GOAT to this level.
If you are tired about the Eli hoopla, you can always turn to the conversation abou Gronk dancing.
Talked about this briefly in the Ravens section. It's amazing how a handful of plays have completely changed the perception of Eli. If the NE CB doesn't drop the INT in the '08 SuperBowl on the same drive that Tyree has the immaculate reception, if Welker holds on to the ball late in this past SB then some Giants fan minds are still looking to run Eli out of town . Instead, now, he's already a HOF QB according to some. Mind boggling but it comes with the territory.

Ifs and buts are just so popular.
If Lee Evans catches the ball, Eli plays the Ravens and not the Pats.
If not for the tuck rule, Pats never get to their first super bowl.
If if if. There are a hundred of if's every game. Most of the time ifs are used to try and downplay something positive by someone. I'm pretty sick of hearing about if. The fact is, none of those things happened so people need to stop iffing everything to death.
Just my two cents.
Bottom line is a couple of fortunate plays has completely changed Manning's perception. It simply can't be denied. Especially the ones in '08. I mean, Law(I believe he was the Pats CB) dropped an INT right in his gut and the Tyree catch both came on the same drive. If either doesn't happen the game is over. Until this year, his reg season production was nowhere near on pace to call him anything close to a HOF QB. He's absolutely stepped up his game and become one of the top QBs in the game but that didn't happen until this year. The body of work isn't good enough to call him a HOF QB at this point.
Brady's legacy and body of work outside of the tuck rule and Evans drop have been pretty much assured. Same for Peyton, same for Drew Brees.
