Vincent Jackson - Reunion with Cameron?

Should we have interest? I assume if he signs with us that it would mean the end of Boldin...

NFL Network's Jason LaCanfora doesn't see "any way" free agent Vincent Jackson returns to the Chargers. The Union-Tribune San Diego has reported the Chargers don't plan to use the franchise tag on V-Jax. The sides are open to a long-term deal, but Jackson is set to break the bank on the open market. "There's too many teams in need of a wide receiver," explained LaCanfora. "Somebody's going to give him big bucks." LaCanfora lists the 49ers, Rams, and Bucs as three potential landing spots. Feb 8 - 8:24 AM

I would take Jackson but I wouldn't break the bank on him. He is soft, imo. If he had Bolden's heart he would be mentioned with Megatron and Andre Johnson. He has the size, speed and talent but he hates contact, very rarely works the middle and always has some sort of ailment. No way I sign him and cut Boldin. I would kick the tires but only at my price would I sign him.

He'll be too expensive. No thanks. Even if he was in our price range he gives up on plays/has the Randy Moss attitude. I think there are better options.

Wouldn't be surprised to see NE go after him...or Desean Jackson.

I think V-Jax would be a perfect fit for our offense, he could be that "missing piece". Here's the bottom line: if we want V-Jax we'll go after him and Ozzie & co. will make it happen cap wise. What it comes down to is are we going to make an all-out run for a Super Bowl next year and possibly the year after risking CAP hell? If so, V-Jax could be a prime target for us. If not, then I think we'll pass and go for a more lower profile FA. Bisciotti mentioned CAP hell was not an option, but you have to wonder how big of a temptation making an all-out run for the Super Bowl will be. Especiallly with Ed and Ray near the end of their careers.

Remember with the new CBA, this year is going to be one of the largest free agency pools ever. There are going to be a lot of younger, undervalued vetern free agents on the market who might not have hit their peak yet. There will also sure to be a lot of Corey Reddings out there as well. I think Ozzie is going to go this route at WR and try to bring in that type of vet.

EDIT: BTW, Sidney Rice got five-years, $43 million with $18 million guaranteed. Yes Sidney was coming off of an injury but V-Jax is five years older than Sidney was at the time of free agency. I bet V-Jax will ask for something in that neighborhood.

The problem with going all in for a SB is that it takes a good amount of luck to win one. Take the Ravens season this year, everything was setup for the Ravens to face the Giants but Evans drops a ball he catches 9-10 times and then Billy Cundiff misses a kick he has made 99-100 times. That is bad luck. I think the Pat's would have won the SB if Gronk doesn't have a serious ankle injury. There are so many factors, injury, suspension, freak accidents etc. so risking salary cap hell isn't something that should be risked, IMO. And I also don't see Bishcotti as anything but truthful and candid.

I know you are just quoting Harbaugh...But the guy missed 10 FGS this season. His track record has never suggested he can kick anything 99 out of 100. Thats not counting the choke factor.

That and if we Harbaugh didn't want Evans because he wasn't the right kind of player, I think the only way VJax lands here is if it's a really team friendly deal.

If we're going to pay big for a receiver I'd rather pay Bowe or Colston personally.

Colston is the way to go. He never put up huge numbers in Sean Payton's spread-it-to-everyone offense but he is the right combination of attributes for us, and may fly under the radar somewhat if V. Jackson, Bowe, and D. Jackson are on the market.

I've heard Bowe's name mentioned a lot. Isn't he more redundant with Boldin - and not a speed type that we would need?

    For me it goes:

    Bowe: Past Immaturity Issues
    Colston: Oft Injured
V Jax: Immaturity/ Diva Issues, Injury Issues
D Jax: Immaturity Issues, Injury Issues, Being bad issues (Torrey Smith can do what D Jax does for less money and attitude.)

I think it would be great to get a big (height) WR because I think we have seen in SD what its like when the tall QB and tall WR can play above the defense. I also love VJax raw skills, and game changing ability. But I feel Bowe has the same skills, more maturity and less injury issues.

I like the Bowe the most too, partly because I think he will not be viewed as favorably as some of these other guys. I want no part or DaSean Jackson and I also think we have no chance of getting Colston. He wouldn't give New Orleans any discount of signing a deal with them, which tells me he is only out for the money (instead of championships)

I like Reggie Wayne to enhance whet we have...not a guy that would lead to the ousting of Boldin.

Bowe would just move Boldin to the slot. We would see a lot more 3 WR sets.

What about the other Saints receiver, Robert Meachem? He could be a young, buy low big potential guy. Big, deep speed. We do not need a #1 receiver, just another piece to the receiver core. Meachem would fit what we need.
