14-9 with seven plus the tourney to go. How many wins does it take for this group to sneak in? I think they probably need a minimum of 6 additional wins total. What does everyone else think? I don't think it is likely that we make it, but I really thought we would have completely eliminated ourselves by now.
BTW while this has been a frustrating team even when they win they have actually already exceeded what I thought they would do this year. Howard looks like he should be MUCH better than he actually plays. Pankey and Padgett are decent grinder types. Len is going to be a real force if he stays around. Mosely is a good role player. Faust seems to so flashes where you can see what the hype was about, but man that shot is fugly. What can you say about Stoglin? He can flat out score. As a team we seem to have real trouble finishing games and appear to play tired or lazy whenever we get up on anyone. If we hold on to a couple double digit leads we are having a completely different conversation right now.
What could have been if JW had stuck around? But then we probably would still have GW also. Overall the future is hopeful, IMO.
5 more regular season wins plus one in the ACC tournament. So, that's 6 overall. If we're gonna get those 6 some of them will necessarily be quality wins based on what's left on our schedule so I think that gets us in. Still, it's very unlikely. I would be very happy with a NIT berth.
Probably have to win the ACC tournament at this point.
Well you figure that barring an ACC tourney championship, they have to get to 9-7 in conference to even get in the conversation, which means going 5-2 down the stretch here.
So they have to beat BC and Miami at home and GT on the road. Then they have to win 2 of the 4 against UVA, Duke and NC.
And they probably still would need to do a little work in the tourney.
That loss @ Miami was a tough one.
It's too much of a long shot for me to seriously think about at this point. But glenn_davis is probably close.....5-2 to finish up (which would include at least 2 wins against teams currently in the Top 25) and at least one win in the ACC Tourney. This should be a much more interesting discussion this time next year.
If they beat Duke and Virginia once and win 6 games from this point on they can get in.
They can play their way in, but they will have to pull some real upsets.
ACC is improved this year. NC State, UVA, Miami all pretty good.
That Colorado win looks much better, heard yesterday they are tied for 2nd in PAC-12, Notre Dame is doing well in the Big East. Haven't really flamed out and lost to bad teams.
Could happen if we beat some good teams.
Lot of good points in here. The season has shaken out to make those Colorado and ND wins look pretty good. Like glenn said, the loss @ Miami is a killer, that really would have helped us. If we could have just hung on in that UNC game, I think we'd actually be sitting pretty.
So at this point we are 14-10, 4-6 in conference. Our RPI is 90, putting us 6th in the ACC. Given the mediocre nature, you'd guess the ACC probably only gets 4-5 bids this year. Duke, UNC, FSU, and UVa are probably shoo-ins at this point. The 5th bid, should it emerge, would probably be between us and Miami. Unfortunately, we lost to Miami, they beat Duke, and they have a 35 RPI. So it isn't looking good.
Certainly we have to go at least 9-7 and probably 10-6. Given that our remaining games are BC, @UVa, Mia, @GT, @UNC, UVa, I see no way we get to either of those. We could go 3-3 which would put us at 7-9 (17-13), which probably gets us into the NIT.
Frankly, if you told me we'd go 7-9 and get an NIT bid at the start of the season, I would have been pretty happy with that. I thought a 3-4 ACC win season was in the cards.
You missed NC State. They are quietly having a solid season. I agree that a birth in the NIT would be good for this team. It would be good to get this team some post season tournament experience. Not too many players have that on this team.
