Ah, gotcha. Should have been more clear. I'm just not real confident he gets things straightened out on the offensive side, but defensively I'd take him over anything we have without even playing in the minors.

That's all they have. The rest of the system is REALLY light.

I did a top 10 for them, and I think Goodwin is their 3rd best player, which isn't saying a ton. He's got some tools, but he doesn't have a set OF spot and he's still pretty raw. If that's your 3rd best guy you are pretty darn shallow. Before the Gio trade they would have been much higher. All 4 prospects were in their top 6 or 7.

They traded like half their system to Oakland for Gio. I still say that was an iffy trade.

The Gio trade wasn't iffy. It was idiotic IMHO. I went on record criticizing it heavily. I don't think it'll put them over the top and it isn't even slightly defensible if it doesn't. We'll see if I'm all wet soon.

I've got to say that, while I think Law is very smart, if you read all 30 of his reviews there is definitely some bias in there. I won't say what they are, because I'm curious how easy they are to pick up on. We all have biases but I don't think it speaks well for him that I can read snippets like these and see them clearly. It makes me wonder why his biases are so strong and why a smart guy is so unable to hide them.

I disagree strongly. I think the Gio trade was a great trade for the Nats, but you're right they gotta play before we see for sure. Even in a half-look though, Gio will be producing at the ML level now, and the best players from the trade won't make the majors for another 2-3 years for OAK.

I think we've had this discussion before.

I think the trade completely depends on whether you think Gio is a #2/3 and whether the Nats will make a postseason because of that trade. I don't think either of those is true, but I've sure been wrong plenty of times before. I think Gio is a hot dog and primed for an injury, but we'll see. The weaker league should definitely help him.

Yeah i was getting a bit of Deja Vu

It will definitely show itself once the season gets going, I'm just not really high on the prospects that went over aside from AJ Cole, I thought the other 3 were really overrated.

Hmmm. Meyer and Purke are boom/bust types, to me. They'd probably go above Goodwin on my list just for upside alone. In the O's system, I think they'd be 4 and 5, IMO. Ahead of Delmonico, B. Bundy, Esposito and Bridwell.

Meyer has made some real improvements in control over this past year...but he looked like a big time bust before that with the control issues he was having. Purke I don't know what to think about just yet. I want to see him healthy and go from there, but I also have doubts he'll be able to STAY healthy and I think he's drifting into having to be a RP to keep from getting hurt.

Goodwin is also boom or bust, and has a TON of upside, he could be Crawford, or he could be Wily Mo Pena, not really sure until he plays things out, but this year will be big for him.

Callis said that following the Gio trade he thought the Nats would be ranked somewhere between 5th and 10th (BA had them ranked first prior to the trade). So, there appears to be considerable difference of opinion.

Yeah I thought he was crazy when he said that. He also said he had them #1 before the trade. I just didn't see it, like I said, I thought 3 of them were seriously overrated, and the ones left I'm not really super impressed by, except at the top.
