Aint' gonna happen but I'll keep pointing out that I would sign #23 on the list. Also, we know the Ravens one way or another are not letting Ray Rice hit the FA market, at least not without the Franchise Tag on him.
I don;t think we're going to be players for any of the guys who are going to get big money. SOme names that interest me at the right price are:
DE- Robert Mathis
DE- Jeremy Mincy
DE- John Abraham
ILB- D'Qwell Jackson
ILB- Stephen Tulloch
WR- Pierre Garcon
WR- Robert Meachem
I am surprised but I am a little unimpressed with that list. the only guys I really like are Mathis, D'Qwell and Tubing Branch. Sure there are some better players on the list but I don't know if they are worth what it would take.
Mathis seems like the perfect guy to after, you know at his age there is no way he wants to stick around for a rebuild.
I can't wait to see what Ozzie does this year in free agency. There are a lot of potential bargains out there with the amount of young free agents.
Bell, Tulloch, Jones I think are big targets for this team.
I'm not a huge fan of Mathis given he's a 4-3 rusher. I don't think he'll play well from the OLB 3-4 spot and I'm not sure he's the right guy for the DLine. Plus I see him as a bit redundant to McPhee.
I think we'll either make a huge splash at WR or a huge splash on defensive pass rush. The rest will be cost smart filler like Ricky Williams. This team doesn't need much. But it could be well served to improve it's line. Increase it's defensive depth and continue to get younger at WR.
In general I'm not a fan of Free Agent WR's. You're talking about high paid, glorified in the spot light players. I'd rather build both sides of the line and improve the trenches.
I am not a big fan of Meacham. This guy has a big game and then disappears for 2 months. Brees like to spread the ball around a lot, and his stats are very uneven from week to week. He only had more than 3 catches the first 5 games of the season when Colston was still coming back, but didn't record more than 3 catches after that. In fact, after week 5 he only had 3 catches twice, and everything else was a 1 or 2 catch game.
I'd hope we sign a better weapon if we go that route.
Mario Williams isn't in the cards, too much cash. I would be interested in Reggie Wayne and D'Qwell Jackson as my outside free agents. Jackson next to Ray Ray would be a great combination and I am sure he would love to come home and play for a winner. Reggie gives you a deep threat, with good hands and route running. Everything we hope Torrey Smith becomes. The problem is his age and how often he plays. I doubt the Ravens would bring him in due to the potential for surliness if he isn't played enough and I would imagine he wouldn't start over Smith (He deserves to start) and AnQuan Boldin. I would offer him a 3 year deal and see if he bites. I probably would take a flyer on Welker as well but I doubt he gets out of NE.
Agree with Jackson being a good fit but i completely disagree with Reggie Wayne. He is far from a deep threat at this stage in his career. He's siimilar to boldin as he's a good possession guy but you aren't going to see him blowing past anyone anymore. Garcon on the other hand does still have that ability and is much younger.
I would be a little concerened that Garcon is a product of Manning. Besides, two years ago this guy had a lot of problems hanging onto the ball. Just give me a reliable guy with sure hands please
Bringing D'Qwell home to be Ray's heir would make sense from both football and marketing perspectives.
Well even with all of his crap QB's this year he ended up with 75 catches and 960 yards. His YPC was actually more this year (12.8) than in the two previous with Manning and is only slightly less than his career total of 13.6. The Ravens don't need him to do what Smith can do but he can still get down the field better than Boldin. Also, his hands are great as is his route running. Again, I would only do this on a short deal with him knowing that he would have to give up some catches to conform to the team concept.
Meachem is going to be relatively cheap and he's a good redzone target. He's also got a 16 career YPC and will only be 28. VJAX lite for what should be a fraction of the cost.
There is no way we are spending big money on a WR. I don;t think we'll be splurging on a big name period, but if we do it's much more likely to be a DE/OLB.
What about this guard?
Better then Grubbs? What if Birk retires? Can Grubbs move to center?Carl Nicks, G, New Orleans Saints: I consider him to be the best guard in the NFL. He is a nasty player who can block for the run or the pass. He turns 27 in May.
