Seriously, can Moss really run a 40 in under 4.4 seconds?
Here's some breaking news that ought to blow your mind: Randy Moss is still capable of running a 40-yard dash in under 4.4 seconds.
Or so Moss, who announced Monday that he's coming out of retirement, informed NFL Network analyst Heath Evans.
'I went straight to the source,' Evans, a former Patriots teammate of Moss, said on 'NFL Total Access' on Monday. 'I texted my buddy, Randy Moss, and I asked him' 'If you had to run a 40 right now, what would you run?' And he texted back, explicitly, '4.35 to 4.38.' '
Let's get this straight: We're supposed to believe Randy Moss ? who celebrated his 35th birthday Monday, mind you ? can run the 40 faster than Julio Jones (4.39) and A.J. Green (4.48) did at the 2011 NFL Scouting Combine?
'I believe the guy,' Evans said. 'I trained with this guy in the offseason. He is a nightmare to work out with. Many guys came in and out of those workouts, and they never showed up again. This guy knows how to get it done.'
This bold proclamation from Moss definitely calls for a Terrell Owens-style public workout for him to prove it. Please.

I think we all know 4.35 is hyperbole however I do believe a mentally motivated Moss can be a very good WR in this league. Especially, scoring TDs. Geez, a redzone threat, just what the Ravens need.He had 13 TDs in 2009, he had 3 TDs in 4 games in '10 with the Pats. He had 2 more in 4 games with the Vikings. He clearly had checked out completely by the time he reached Tennessee. IMO, if he had stayed in New England in '10 despite his issues at the time with Beillichek and his act wearing thin I believe he still puts up close to 1000 yards and 10+ TDs.
Like Owens, the guy just seems to not be able to stay motivated for years at a time and eventually has checked out everywhere he has been. However, like someone else said, we are now at a point where this is all low risk. Moss knows he isn't a guy who will have a long leash anywhere in the league. He knows at the first sign of trouble his team will just cut him. A prima donna act won't cut it anymore because teams will have virtually nothing invested in him.
I have to admit if he can come in at a reasonable price I'm very interested. Remember Jerry Rice at the same age was leading the league in Rec and/or Td's. Granted Rice is the best all time, but Moss could realistically be #2. He's a game changer and of the most talented players to ever play the game. Plug him in with Boldin and Smith and it has the potential to be scary. A motivated Moss at age 35 is probably better than all but the Johnson's and Fitzgeralds of the world (I.E. top 10-15 WR).
My concern is attitude. He got cut from the Vikings for humiliating and denigrating a food service provider for serving what he termed, I believe, as "slop" and that he wouldn't feed this stuff to his dog. This was in front of a lot of players and personnel. This kind of stuff simply can not happen in the Ravens org. If he is signed, you better believe he would be on the shortest leash in the history of the NFL
I agree, and he probably would be.
I still can't believe he was run out of NE. I mean, that has to be the most competitive organization in football and he was able to lose focus up there. I would think that having the chance to win SB's every year would motivate someone to stay on the top of their game. So there is no guarantee that he would come here and be a different player. If he has matured in the past year, and put all that crap behind him, I do believe that the Ravens is probably one of the best places he could go.
I also wouldn't be surprised to see him go back to NE.
If Moss is going to play for a "reasonable price", there are a lot of easier head coaches to play for than Harbaugh. I'd give this about a .5% chance of happening in Baltimore.
I'm surprised nobody has brought up the Ray Lewis influence yet....
I'm all for bigger faster better options for Flacco, but this guy isn't gonna be it.
I think it was Cris Carter that stated that Moss has more "quit" in him than any pro he's been around.
Bingo on the quit statement by Cris Carter. I can't see the Ravens bringing this influence into their locker room at this point. Here's a guy who's well past his prime and has a tendency to quit. Oh yeah, he wants to play for a contender. Good luck tryiing to find a fit Randy.
