This is what I am going to miss the most. I'm almost at 500 posts so it was time to make a decision anyway. I have been dragging it out, limiting my posts so as not to hit 500 too quickly, but it's time. If I were inclined to pay for such a site this one would be it because it does indeed offer much more than just a place to post comments. I have learned so much from the members about baseball metrics, Orioles prospects, the workings of the front office, and so much more. Indeed, Tony and crew have created a community, of which I have only been a fringe member, kind of like one of the guys who hangs out around the outside of a big party and never gets fully involved.
So I bid the OH farewell, and will even stop checking on Orioles news on other sites until it's time for Opening Day. Baseball and the Orioles are in my blood so I can never truly turn away from them, but if the organization is becoming ever more callous in their disdain for the remaining hardcore fans then I don't need to give it more of my attention than it deserves. I stopped watching games or even reading about the results for a month in April two years ago when Gonzo blew that first save so I know I can do it.
Tony, thank you for the service you have provided, the community you have created through your framework, and your commitment to standards of excellence. It reflects in the community which is truly premium. Thanks to the other posters from whom I have learned so much. I will miss Frobby's level headed evaluation of matters, JTrea's Charlie Brown like faith that this time things are going to be different, even Sports Guy's dismissive know-it-all attitude toward others.
But I really will miss Weams' avatar the most.
The thing I don't understand is the board promotes the O's . People post about Fanfest and about autographs. Also when tickets go on sale for single games and what promotions the O's have coming up this year. People also post when ticket promotions come up. The site promotes Orioles events and sells tickets and the O's don't care. I am sure someone on here can get group discount tickets from the O's.Good luck with the redesigned site.
Just keep in mind that if you came asking for help to keep the site going it might be a little like the end of It's A Wonderful Life.
(But I can't help thinking of the Saturday Night Live/Dana Carvey alternate ending to It's a Wonderful Life where George Bailey finds out Angelos (sorry, Potter) stole his money and goes and beats the crap out of him.)
Yeah. The Orioles promotional division made a real dumb choice here.
There was probably some outside manipulation from jealous people about the Hangout's role.
I can not believe they would be so stupid about a very small portion of their advertising budget.
I keep thinking that someone in the organization is smart enough to see that the OriolesHangout is a Unique accessory to their organization and not a fly by night message board or individual blog. I have great respect for some of the people who put effort into also developing content on their own blogs. But they cannot command thousands of users at a single time as this place can. Real poor analysis of the situation.
I suspect that Tony did not toot his own horn enough. But then, he's humble.

This is one thing that concerns me. I hope that Tony allows (that may not be the right word, but you get my meaning) us to continue posting this kind of stuff, because I would often find out about stuff that I didn't know and decide to attend a game based off that info. It sucks that the Orioles are not supporting us here, but just because I support the Hangout doesn't mean I won't support the Orioles. I want to do both, and I just hope we don't stop discussing Orioles related affairs.
I don't post much but this whole situation pisses me off. I will NOT be flying up from Charlotte for OD this year.
Here is what Bader should do:
*Poll the 25 man roster once finalized and ask those that have been on the team previously what it feels like when the Yanks/Soxs come to town.
*Then ask the players if it sounds like a good idea to cut off a MINIMAL financial commitment to the most LOYAL fan group the Orioles possess. I'd imagine a couple players would take it personally. Who knows, maybe 1 or all 25 players step up to the plate and contact Tony directly.
I really hope Monica is reading this forum and can see our displeasure/disgust.
If people want to talk about promotion, we're certainly not going to stop them. Now if suddenly one poster is always talking about them or posting things without being involved in other conversations then we'll consider that a plant, but otherwise, I'm not going to stop people from talkining about up coming events if they want to. Just because I've been treated poorly is not going to mean that I'm going to become anti-Oriole. Like I said previously, my love for the team goes far above more professional dealings with them. If they do something good I'll be happy to say that and if they do something bad, I'll also be sure to comment on that as well. I don't see my attitude changing about the on the field team as a whole.
I think Tony has smacked just about everyone of us from time to time... kinda like my dad. More then once I have had to beg for rep back! lol
Thanks for taking the high road Tony, although I have never met you face to face yet I feel pretty close to you personally with your diaries when you were away at war to your book (thanks for using my post) and to your true dedication to the orioles organization and to this community.
Thanks for letting me be a part of it and I promise WEAMS I will try to make a hangout night this year.
Sometimes the big-bad greedy evil corporation isn't entirely wrong.
I've lurked / occasionally posted on this website for a few years and have appreciated its existence. I was not aware that the site was directly sponsored by the O's, and now that I know this, I definitely wonder about the editorial content provided. I think any reasonable person, even those looking to protect an interest (ie the Warehouse), would agree that an open message board free of censorship is great. But I have to wonder how they feel about spending money on sponsorship at a website, and then watch as the owner of that website (or his editorial staff) criticize individuals in the Warehouse. My perception of things: the owner of this website was trying to have his cake and eat it too, and he eventually rubbed the wrong person the wrong way on the inside. My guess is that this had to do with some of the blog posts back during the GM search after the season ended. I don't think the O's expect happy-go-lucky, blow smoke up your rear-end ra-ra cheerleading. But I do think that they expect some level of understanding that there is a business relationship involved, and that you don't bash your partner as part of a marketing/content plan.
I think if the owner of this website went to the O's, apologized for this tiff, and asked to enter into a new business relationship with the understanding that he may be providing a site for (relatively) free speech but that he and his agents specifically do not have that same level of free speech, the O's would be likely to work with him given the huge, obvious benefit that this site provides to the O's.
