    Anyone make homemade pizza?

My wife and I enjoy making our own pizzas and we have been experimenting with different pizza dough over the past year and although we haven't found the perfect crust, we have made some amazing homemade pizzas.

Last weekend we were in NYC and went to Keste Pizza, which is right across the street from John's Pizzeria. I love John's, it's among my favorites, but Keste was probably the best pizza I have had outside of southern Italy. I found this recipe by the owners of Keste today and I am determined to try to recreate Neopolitan pizza at my house. It has officially become my winter doldrums obsession.

Anyone else here make their own pizza?

Michele and I make a very nice pizza rustica with spinach, feta, fresh garlic, capers, and mozzerella. I use a regular homemade bread dough--not the rich stuff with egg and milk but a basic recipe with flour, salt, water, and yeast.

You should come over. We'll make one!

I buy em at Papa Murphy's then take them home and cook them myself. Does that count?

There is a difference between regular pizza, which is great, and the Neapolitan pizza that I am trying to perfect. Neapolitan pizza is light, fluffy, fresh...you could eat an entire pizza and want two more, which is what I did this past weekend.

Outside of getting a crust we like perfected, our pizzas are already great.

I just got back from a small Italian market here in Frederick...got the Caputo flour and the canned San Marzano tomatoes.

Man i can't wait to make these things.

Tomatoes? You bet. My favorite pizza is your basic Margherita...tomato, mozzarella, and basil.

Of course, I load up other pizzas with meats.

Heh. I was coming down to post "dipping in hot cocoa?"

I've started making my own pizzas. I actually indirectly caused the death of my family's last oven with my attempts*. It's nice, though I'm still a novice with yeast and dealing with rising and kneading and everything. Made some great ones a week or so ago. Planning on making one tomorrow night.

*It was on its last legs, anyway. However, after I turned it up to 500 degrees (max temperature) to bake on a stone, the main element wouldn't heat right anymore. Had to use the broiler to preheat for a few weeks. Totally worth it, though
