Reports: Cleveland may trade up for RGIII

I saw this "report"/ rumor over at rotoworld. I have to say i am glad to see the Brownscontinue to be mismanaged. I was worried when they got so many picks from Atlanta last year that they finally may be getting it right and amassing picks to improve the overall talent of their organization. But if these reports are right it looks like they may saddle another talented young QB with a team that has no chance to succeed because of a dearth of talent.

I think Cincinnati showed last year that you don't have to move up to get a potential franchise QB.

Whoever wants Griffin will have to trade up to get him, IMO. (unless, of course, Stl wants him). Even with the Falcolns first rounder, they could end up getting screwed and miss out on Tannehill. So if they want a top 3 qb in this year's draft, they'll most likely need to make a move. However, I wouldn't be surprised to see them go the route of Flynn or Campbell and keep their picks.

Flynn and keeping their picks makes the most sense IMO. That way they could spend those extra picks to put some talent around Flynn and a resigned Hillis.

I agree, but I'd imagine that the Hillis bridge has been burned. If they go that route, Blackmon would be an excellant pick up for them.

Of course...Either the Browns or the Skins will do this.

I'm not sure this a universal application of the draft. It's like saying you don't need to draft a QB before the 5th round because you get Brady late.

If you think RG3 is Cam Newton, it's potentially worth it.

"Have to" well no. The chances just arent as good. And . . . . . . . . . . . . . the jury is still out on the Cincy QB being a franchise guy. 1 year isnt enough to make the proclamation that a guy is franchise.

Does this mean Cleveland is giving up on Colt McCoy?

I'm not sure if they are giving up on him exactly, but according to an SI guy on the radio yesterday, they are still concerned about his concussion. Whether or not that's their way of avoiding being critical of his play, I don't know.

I mean...Colt is a poor man's RG3 anyway right? If you can upgrade the arm and the legs on your QB that you got in the 3rd round giving up on him means you aren't losing a ton of value in the guy. Third round picks bust all the time. I'm not sure Cle should be overly attached to keeping McCoy in that spot.

So? The Patriots also showed that you can get a hall of fame QB in the 6th round. Doesn't mean that should be a strategy.

RGIII is going 2nd overall, but it won't be to the Rams.

And the Colts have been dearth of talent for years (except at QB obviously), didn't stop them from making the playoffs. RGIII would make the Browns relevant again and it wouldn't cost them too much since they are only jumping 2 spots.

Oh it will cost a lot, even for those 2 spaces. Especially with that 4.38 40 he just ran. Fisher is a smart football man. He's gonna get a lot of offers and he is going to get A LOT of draft picks out of one of those offers.

I really really hope he doesn't end up in Cleveland. I think RGIII is going to be an amazing professional QB. Not better than Luck, but still great.

Heard on the radio today that the Skins package if they want to move is being offered around 1, 2, 3 this year + 1 next year, obviously this is speculation but in theory the Browns could put something like this together since they've got that extra pick and not lose a first rounder, in addition they would be moving up less spots. And the Rams would be picking of the next two best players outside of RGIII. I'd almost be surprised the more I think about it for the Browns not to trade up here, unless the Rams are completely sold on Bradford being a bust.

The AFC North keeps getting better all around though. The Browns are in a great position even if they don't trade up since they can really add some more quality talent to the team this year.

The Browns can easily match anything anyone below them wants to throw out. The key is the Rams will only have to drop 2 spots and will be able to pick up either Kalil or Blackmon.
