I was watching ESPN yesterday and Adam Schefter was basically saying that the Steelers are in a bad spot because they are so far over their cap. They would naturally like to keep Wallace but significant cuts would be needed.
Schefter thought its entirely possible a rival like the Ravens or the Pats could sign him to an offer sheet, make their team stronger and the Steelers weaker.
Any chance the Ravens would actually have interest in him?
Depends on what kind of tender offer he receives. I don't give up a 1st Round pick for him, but maybe a 2nd.
Zero chance he leaves Pitt.
Would do it in a heart beat. What do you lose by signing him to an offer sheet and making the Steelers match? Worst case is you take the rivals best player and lose a late first round pick??? That actually sounds like a best case. Risk versus reward is 100% worth the chance!
That being said the Patriots are probably the team that would be more prepared to do this with there draft picks and huge need at WR.
Pitt has put a first round tender on him.
I guess I should take back what I said.
Shefter is saying they are vulnerable since they are 11M over the cap right now.
I guess it is possible they let him walk, especially with the emergence of Brown but still, I would be surprised.
I guess the question is whether the better choice is Jackson, who costs only cash, or Wallace, who costs cash and a pick but also weakens a divisional opponent and primary rival?
Man, if I were the Steelers I would be scared to death the Bengals don't sign him to an offer sheet. Actually, I'm scared even more as a Ravens fan at that idea. I heard on NFL Radio that a team could offer Wallace an upfront roster bonus that would make it near impossible for the Steelers to match the offer.
