Today was the day that FF was supposed to go down to the Dominican
I wonder if/when we will hear any reports about his visit with Jorge Soler. If he indeed still went down...

Considering that he was going to scout more than just Soler, I'm fairly certain they wouldn't cancel the trip.

"When Fred walked out onto the field, it was like the pope of the Dominican has walked out onto the field," Showalter said. "All these scouts were saying, 'Oh my gosh, there's Fred Ferreira.' We're very lucky to have Fred."

The Blue Jays attended a workout for highly-touted Cuban outfielder Jorge Soler in the Dominican Republic on Wednesday, MLB.com reports.
Soler, considered the next best Cuban player on the market after outfielder Yoenis Cespedes signed with Oakland, is expected to work out for the Orioles on Sunday.
Soler has reportedly applied for residency in the Dominican Republic — the first step toward international free agent eligibility — and should clear that hurdle in the next few days. At that point, teams can talk contract with the player, but can’t sign him until he is also cleared by the U.S. treasury department.

Executive vice president Dan Duquette wouldn't comment yesterday on the club's level of interest in Cuban outfielder Jorge Soler.
Fred Ferreira, the organization's executive director of international recruiting, flew to the Dominican Republic over the weekend to scout Soler and five other Cuban players. I guess that counts as interest.
Duquette said it doesn't benefit the Orioles to talk about Soler. He doesn't see the point in tipping his hand to the rest of the baseball industry.
The chance to assist me with a blog entry didn't sway his opinion.
Duquette basically said that if the Orioles sign Soler, they sign him, and if they don't, they don't. I'll take a big leap here and say there must be a least some level of interest, since he included the first part of that sentence.
Do I think it will happen? No. As I've written, I'll always be skeptical until the Orioles make a big splash in the international market. So far, no cannonballs.

Until their level of interest gets past the "Yeah, we'd like to have him, but other teams are interested so nevermind" stage, I laugh when I hear they have interest in anyone.
