Where do our in house options stand? Williams, Doss, Reed and any practice squad guys. Williams had some drop/fumble troubles when he was in for Evans, and Doss not seeing much of the field obviously doesn't bode well. Reed doesn't seem like a fit in our type of offense, though someone like Payton or Belichick could probably find a way to use him.

I agree with your point about the TEs. Pitta is better but is used more in short/medium range. Dickson runs the deeper, sexier routes but has a big consistency problem IMO. The good news overall is that both are 2nd year and have considerable upside.

Speaking of Doss, he was a returner/WR type at Indiana. I'm not sure why the Ravens didn't work him in somehow. David Reed struggled (I never bought his hype/potential BTW) and overall the return game was less than "special".

The Ravens have Boldin & Smith ...Seriously how often does Cam put the 3/4 wide sets out there? I doubt we'd go with any expensive receiver. I think it's more likely they bring Evans back at a reduced rate then bring onion a big name.

NFL Network's Jason LaCanfora reports "people close to" free agent Vincent Jackson are convinced he will ultimately be franchised despite reports to the contrary.

The Chargers want to avoid a "year-to-year" situation with Jackson, but the sides have made no progress on a long-term deal. Even at $13.7 million, using the franchise tag would give GM A.J. Smith a wider window to negotiate a deal that would keep Jackson in San Diego beyond 2012. The Bolts are reported concerned about their receiving corps with Antonio Gates aging and no one capable of replacing V-Jax's production. Feb 23 - 2:30 PM

The salary cap forces you to make so many tough decisions. From a purely football standpoint, I love what Q brings to the table. He doesn't have any great "measureables" but he's just a football player. However, at his age, salary and what we need to get out of the WR position, may force us into one of those tough spots.

As I see it, Boldin really isn't a good fit for this system because he really can't create separation on his own and he doesn't have any physical attributes (neither speed, nor size) that allow him to beat CBs consistently. He can make contested catches sometimes but he's not going to regularly get behind DBs. Based on what we know about Cam's system and how little we use slants and shallow crosses, Boldin isn't really able to do what he does best.

Given the fact that this version of Air Coryell relies so much on near flawless execution, we have to seriously considering upgrading at WR.
