    Brian Roberts Working Out

Britt reported today that Roberts is hitting in the indoor cage, and threw with Hardy.

I'm just waiting for him to be out for another 4 weeks, but I'm starting to give the guy credit for trying so hard. He obviously wants to be starting on Opening Day for the Orioles.

I give him credit for being able to walk straight. The hitting and throwing is a nice bonus.

This is exciting news. It's very very early to be sure but having him work out is certainly an encouraging sign.

No one should doubt his effort.

But I thought he was soft, a sissy, an embodiment of a loser?

I respect his trying because it's easy to understand the "why" behind it (i.e., he just loves playing baseball), but I don't think he should be a professional athlete anymore given the extent of his physical problems.

Just speaking to his health as a person, it doesn't seem like he belongs on a baseball diamond. Too risky going forward.

Its encouraging for him to hopefully get back to having a proper way of life for his long term future...as far as the team and him playing, we shall see.

I almost wonder if he is pushing himself early to see what he can do and if he can't, then he decides to retire.

Good news, but it really doesn't mean much. Sidney Crosby (concussion) has been working out and practicing with his team for months and is still not playing in games.

    I think that, too.

I don't doubt that the odds of him playing again on a regular basis are quite long. But he's one of the few home grown guys we have. All of us here have followed him since he came up. I'd love to see him make it back. When you think about it, losing your career and your long term physical health is one hell of a price to pay for conkin yourself in the noggin out of frustration.

He is gonna have to push himself sooner or later. I don't know how he'd retire...if he'd work in a buyout or forfeit the money or what. I'm interested to see how it plays out. I hope it doesn't come down to him making lackluster attempts at coming back until his contract expires. I would like to see something done about this if he still can't play.

Oh well, time will tell I suppose.

I don't want to get my hopes up, but it's hard not to. If he's healthy, we surely have a winning season with the rest of the guys around him.

    A dream for me:
    1) Roberts returns to close his past form
    2) Hardy stays healthy
    3) Davis comes through with potential power
    4) Reynolds stays on pace for 35+ HRs

IF accounts for 100+ HRs.........filthy just filthy. I did say dream......
