No was i say CJ2K is better then RR right now, his #s were terrible last year. But your right total catches is the main number to look at
Average per reception
McCoy: 6.6
Rice 9.3
Foster 11.6
And MJD may have led the league in rushing yards, but Rice led the league in yards from scrimmage.
Well, if catches only mean so much, I am not sure how you judge a WR.
Welker is really the only solid NFL WR on the Pats and he get 100 catches a year. The Johnson's are big freakish WR's bodies whose physical attributes are inspiring, but to me, for a WR, this is what matters.
What is it about McCoy and Foster make you believe that they are better (or just as good) receivers than Rice?
Their hands are as good and they are solid after the catch.
I just don't see how Rice can be labeled as the best. There are a lot of excellent receiving RBs out there. Hell, look at a guy like Reggie Bush even.
Look, Rice is an excellent back...He is a beast right now.
But there are a ton of homers here. There are plenty of backs that give you the same, better or similar production Rice gives you and a lot of those players were drafted after the first round.
Calling Rice a great back is being a homer? Im not saying hes the best back in the league, but when you consider what he can do as a runner and as a receiver how can you say hes not a top 5?
I'd say the best guy right now is probably Sproles, but that is in part due to him being on the Saints.
Another good name.
Rice is clearly in the upper echelon, there is no doubting that.
But where will he be in 3 years? That's the real issue. People saying, just pay him seemingly don't understand how the salary cap works and how easy it is to find good RBs in this league.
but whos saying the guy we have in 3 years, if its not rice, will be anywhere near the player he is? I'll take a proven guy over an unproven player any day of the week
Who knows where anyone will be in 3 years. My point was/is that we should be looking to lock him up as opposed to franchising him for the simple reason that it is more cap friendly. Do the deal, and in three years, if he stinks, cut him. But we should be able to front load the contract with roster bonuses that will be more cap friendly than franchising him twice and then seeing if we want to franchise him.

Again .. I think he'll end up getting franchised and then walk after that unless he seriously lowers his asking price.
