Bold, but no one cares about the non revenue sports.
Sure, no one cares about the non-revenue sports. But, with the landscape of college sports changing, establishing a local "rival" would be good for both teams. The Terps won't play UNC or Duke twice a year. Gtown won't play Cuse. So, this would be a nice rival. But, Gtown will continue to duck the game. I don't blame the Teros for wanting to be done with Gtown all together.
I agree. This all comes down to G-town saying that a true home-and-home cant exist between the two schools?
A Terps/Hoyas game would be so sweet. I lived in Philly for quite a while and the big 5 games are awesome to go to...
Is this a bigger deal among Terps fans? Does G-Town people not care?

This is an idiotic tactic by a desperate man. John Thompson III is absolutely correct that this is so far from how things are done that it's absurd. How would you respond to being threatened with a boycott of head-to-head competition in all sports if you were Georgetown?
Maryland athletic department is in bad financial shape. And now Maryland athletic department is going to lose their home-and-home in men's basketball with Virginia and Duke. So Maryland athletic department threatens Georgetown? What did Georgetown do?
Before this, Georgetown fans probably would've liked it. Now Georgetown fans will likely respond with a united, "Screw Maryland," for this tactic.
Reason why I posed the question is because the guys on the Sports Fix (ESPN 980)alluded to the fact that Georgetown's athletic director doesn't really see this as a big deal. This made me consider that maybe this is a one sided thing on Maryland's part. If Georgetown doesn't care and won't play us, I certainly don't see the point of banning all other Maryland clubs from playing Georgetown in sports they want to play us in. Travel costs alone in non revenue sports make the DC schools too valuable as far as partnerships go.
There must have been a better way to go about this... But, Georgetown needs to stop dragging its feet and allow the games to happen. They need to get over the fact that the Verizon Center is their home court and that, yes, it will be partially full of Maryland fans. They will get paid for their home court... as Maryland will for their theirs.
Geesh.
How lame on both party's parts.
I replied by saying the fans would like it. The school, on the other hand, arguably has more to lose than to gain. They're a frequently Top 25 team despite being a small (compared to many D1 schools) school. Amongst other things, their scheduling philosophy is part of that winning formula.
If one of the two schools goes through a stretch where they dominate the rivalry, they could start winning the local recruiting war and thus dominate the rivalry further. Georgetown currently wins their share of local recruiting wars. They're the small school; the little guy fighting off the big bully; and they're winning. They're not desperate for the revenue the way Maryland is. For them, it ain't broke so they don't want to fix it.
Maryland is a public school with about 27,000 undergrads. Georgetown is a private school with about 7,000 undergrads. This is a poor approach from Anderson.
Kevin Anderson is a little leaguer. He and Edsall are in a neck-and-neck race for biggest Maryland athletics asshat since Bob Wade.
This is the best thing KA has done since hiring Turgeon, in my opinion. I'm fine with it. Like it, even. This is a game that should be played. If Georgetown thinks its too good for MD, so be it. Have fun with your new rivals from South Florida and San Diego State.
Am I the only person that doesn't care at all about Georgetown?
I love this by Kevin Anderson. Georgetown athletics may not need the money now, but they will. Once they ACC has finished raiding the Big East, Georgetown won't be so happy. They'll be left in the dust and irrelevant. This is why I have always hated Georgetown. They think they're better than everyone else. Well, MAN UP. PLAY US AND SHOW IT.
If they want to act like children and pretend that they don't have a home court just because their fans are a POS, then so be it.
I don't think this issue is very complicated. It all comes down to what Georgetown feels is an unfair advantage for md in what would be a home-and-home series and maryland's prior unwillingness to play exclusively at the Verizon center.
What they should do is call the game
Neutral... Split the tix at Verizon and roll with it. Look at how popular the navy/Maryland football has become. It's epic!
Poor negotiating tactic by Anderson to go public with it. Privately, if he wants to try and gain leverage by pulling scheduling in other sports, that's one thing. But now if they agree to play the game it will look like Georgetown caved in....and I don't see them doing that as long as JT3 is coach.
