Since I was young, license plates have been interesting to me - different states, different designs, vanity plates, all artifacts to potentially gain a little insight into time, place, and culture, or just get a good laugh. I thought maybe we could post about plates we've seen (in person, not just on another site) that are cool or funny, with pictures when we can. I don't have a "smartphone," so anytime I post will likely just be with a description.
So, for starters, today I went to AutoZone to pick up some brake shoes and pads for my car when I saw an early Pontiac Fiero with the (Virginia) plate "PEZKING."
A slick Corvette flew past me on Route 29 today. Vanity plate "AT LAST"
I got a chuckle.
This is a thread I have been pondering about starting for many months. Ahhhh, waited too long I see.
I'm on the road a lot for work and looking at license plates, keeps me from getting bored. When I get home, I'll post my list that I was composing. Some very clever people out there.
Without looking at my list, the one that comes to my mind, and is my all time favorite, is a black Dodge diesel duelly, that has a vanity plate reading...IMDBULL. Yes, you certainly are.![]()
My wife told me yesterday that she saw an Acura Legend driving down the road.
The "Legend" is on top of the license plate.
The plate read, "OFZELDA".
The best one I've seen is "STFUTHX."
There was one I used to see around my hometown: TRXNHOS
My brother was being tailgated by a Porsche once, and he looked at the license plate: 3VOM. Think about what that spells when you see it in your rear view mirror.
Two faves. On an Audi: INNIE.
On a sedan moving cautiously down the highway: O4AMAP.
Ok, here's my list. These are the ones I liked and remembered to write them down.
This one on a Porche...IWNK24 7
This one on a 4 wheel drive...SNOW BRR
The rest, I don't remember the vehicle:
B CRE8TV
ELE FUNT
KUS ICAN
MUTT LVR
GRL PWRD (yes, thankfully driven by a girl)
BUT DAAD
NO SAINT
Many years ago, while driving on the strip in Vegas, a blue metal flake Corvette passed me with the license plate XR8DWMN. I had to catch up and see who was driving, you guessed it, an old fat man.
Also, around 2000, on the 101 freeway in Encino, I saw SK84USA. It was Tara Lipinski and she was picking her nose.
My old roomate had
UB6IB9
A couple years ago we were traveling interstate 70 on our way to an O's game and saw an elderly couple with the following West Virginia plate "GOBLRNOB". We laughed our butts off the rest of the trip. Later we found out there is a place called Gobblers Knob.
I went to the laundromat after putting up the OP. After putting the clothes in the wash I walked to the grocery store to get a couple of things. On the way I saw a white Ford Explorer with the (Virginia) license plate "NAW DUDE". This by itself isn't that funny, but combine it with the faded Red Sox sticker in the bottom left corner of the back window....
"Sox make the playoffs?"
"Naw, dude."
