Too bad that the audio was so screwed up I couldn't really tell what positive things they were talking about. ~d Said that any general manager says that it takes 3 years at the big league level to work out all the pitching kinks. He is what the good ones look like, it has been a very small sample size to really tell whether he is one of the ones that fall by the wayside or if he will really blossom, for us or someone else.
This kid is only going to be 24. He pitched a brilliant game to open the season in
Tampa last year..didnt give up a run or hit through 6 innings. He has the stuff, I
think its mchanics and confidence. I dont understand why NO ONE mentions him as
a prospect anymore. He can blossom before our eyes. He needs to be consistent.
I haven't totally given up on Tillman yet, but I think he'll have a tough time cracking the ML rotation this year. Perhaps a move to the 'pen is in order. His '09 and '10 AAA stats were good, but last year he really fell off a cliff at both the AAA and ML levels. Maybe he can re-discover some type of success under new guidance, but last year's regression is certainly worrisome to me.
I just haven't seen it from him, even in the good starts. He has to be nearly perfect to be effective. I have never seen the consistent velocity that he was supposed to have when we got him. I saw it for a couple innings at a time last year, but then back to 88-90. His stuff isn't good enough for 88-90. I hope as much as anyone that he becomes a good ML pitcher, but as a prospect he is off my radar (atleast as a starter).
