We are much better equipped to deal with the young pitchers failing this year than we were last year (a year which they pretty much did fail)....Our pitching was as bad and unlucky as we could possible suspect so even if the young pitchers fail as much as last year (not likely), I would still suspect both our pitching and D to be better....
And given the fact our offense is likely to generate similar production....I think it is far more likely we will end up with around 75 wins versus 62 wins....
And people say we have no backup plan for Davis failing but that is just simply not true....You got Mark as a 1b option with Antonelli/RF/Andino all options a 3rd....Not to mention Nick Johnson in the minors as well as Mahoney who is a big first half away from a shot at the Majors....
Also Josh Bell at 3rd if he can put together a really good first half then Reynolds goes to first....Or you could put Riemold at 1st with LJ hoes in LF with a good first half or Endy Chavez in LF or Jai miller could surprise us....
What's great about this team versus past teams is we actually do have solid backup plans almost across the board and many many backup SP/RP plans.....
If anything this is the least likely O's team to lose 100 then almost any recent team we have fielded.

Dude, I'm not hoping for 100 losses. Big difference between hoping for 100 losses and predicting that it's where they'll end up.
I don't hope for the best anymore, I've learned not to do that. At this point, I just hope that the Orioles don't embarras themselves on a nightly basis.
What's your deal man, are you trolling Milligan? The other day you told him to quit posting here simply because he's become, like a LOT of us, apathetic.
All he was saying is that if a well-run franchise can catch a few bad breaks and drop 99, the loss 'ceiling' for us has got to be well above 100.
I'm not trying to make this personal or derail the thread, but I can see why SG gets so aggravated with you all the time.
I'm sorry if you have difficulty reading. I asked him why he bothered posting in the O's talk section if he finds the O's uninteresting. Then I said move along, nothing to see here. I would hope you would understand that is saying that nothing in this thread should be of any interest to him. People who have nothing more to add other than the Orioles suck, are boring. What's your deal?
I think Buck alone would prevent 100 losses. I think you could give Buck our AAA team and we wouldn't lose 100 games.
Having said that, this is still a bad team and I (and a lot of others) don't believe Buck will be back so things could get even worse without a change in ownership.
Yeah I'd say a guy with 40+ HR is a viable replacement as is a guy with plus D and a .400 obp for his career, if he's healthy (which can be applied to all players)....The value of offense has skyrocketed the last two years and if there ever was a time the last ten years for Mark to be viable 1b it's nowadays.....And as far as Joe goes he hits....If he puts up a big first half, he is a viable back-up plan....These guy's are just as good as many starters/back ups we have had there in the past.
Antonelli is also a viable 3rd backup if he can post a 340+ obp with plus D and even give us a .360+ slg....That's a good 3rd baseman....Much better than Reynolds last year anyway...Although you would be a fool to not regress Mark's D in projections, which would leave him at least a 1+ WAR guy there.

I think this is the year we surprise everyone and break that elusive 70 win barrier. It would be the first time since 2006. I've got us at 72 wins.
75 wins
