Orioles Add Sports Psychologist to help talk to players
http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?...ign=br_orioles
"We never had anybody we could really go to or talk to [like this] before," said Britton, part of a young and inexperienced staff that finished last season ranked last in the Majors in several key statistical categories.
"You know, we always talk among each other, but if we are all having a tough stretch, you are all thinking negatively, you don't really have someone outside the situation you can go to and talk to because he has a different perception," Britton said. "[Kaplan] was working with the military and stuff, so he was obviously doing something right if they trust him with people who put their lives on the line."

Just now...
...good lord.
The Ravens' Sports Psychologist does a great job, by the way. Really cool person, too.

Peopled scoffed in KC when Dayton Moore added one. He has started to build something here so I will defer to the experts on this.

I can't really imagine what it's like to be in a cutthroat environment like that, being either deified or demonized from week to week, having more money and attention than you've ever had for the first time in your life, having your private life compromised, and having the pressure of trying to satisfy and make proud your fanbase. At the age of, say, 24. Or for some guys way younger.

Rube, you read the articles? Let's try reciting them when you throw the ball back. If we can't get Cerrano a live chicken get him a bucket of KFC so Jobu can help him hit curveballs.

Damn this what I'm going to major in when I get to Grad School. I was hoping this Job wouldn't open up until I graduate and I get all the credit for turning the team around with my knowledge!

Unfortunately, my first thought is to that scene in The Natural. Of course, I'm taking a sports psychology class this semester, so my opinion will probably change.

Beat me to it:
FanShrink: "Welcome MadMan.....Thank you for coming"
MadMan: "The pleasure is all mine....really"
Fanshrink: "How can I help you?"
MadMan: "I'm not sure...really"
FanShrink: "Please lie down and tell me about it"
The MadMan looks around the room and reluctantly lies down
MadMan: It all started when I was a child.....my parents dropped me on my head and then I became an O's fan....Uh maybe it was vice-versa"
FanShrink: "Your problem is becoming quite clear to me......."
