I try not to find a point in movie quotes. Especially mine. Funny for funny sake.

Surprised they didn't already have one. I just hope the individual is skilled. Very unlikely to hurt, decent chance they help, cost will be irrelevant.

Honestly I don't know how you could think this was a bad thing? I mean these are human beings, human beings that put a lot of pressure on themselves and have a lot of pressure put on them, having a trained professional to talk to them can only be a good thing.

It irks me when people react so negatively to any type of mental health subject.

I agree. I think all professional sports teams that can afford one should have one.

Is this psyche guy gonna be available for the fans? Because if he is, I have a feeling we may need to get several of them because the workload is going to be way too much for one guy.

    Satan is an Orioles fan?

Well, prayers to God haven't helped a lot these past 14 years. So...you do what it takes.

"We never had anybody we could really go to or talk to [like this] before," said Britton, part of a young and inexperienced staff that finished last season ranked last in the Majors in several key statistical categories.

"You know, we always talk among each other, but if we are all having a tough stretch, you are all thinking negatively, you don't really have someone outside the situation you can go to and talk to because he has a different perception," Britton said. "[Kaplan] was working with the military and stuff, so he was obviously doing something right if they trust him with people who put their lives on the line."
Would this be proof that extended losing has an effect on a team?

Did the Rays turn around because of a sports psychologist?

I think emotions affect the W-L of a sports team, but I also think the talent of said team is the bigger factor.

The rays turned it around because of their talent no doubt, but that is not to say that their team psychologist didn't play a role. Carlos Pena was on the verge of being DFA'd and passed through Waivers, until he started to see some results after he saw their newly hired team psychologist. Talent obviously played a role, but he never really fulfilled his potential until he started consulting the team psychologist, from what I have read.

This is not going to save the team by any means, but it is definitely something the o's should have.

This is not going to save the team by any means, but it might save one or two players who are having problems. Like maybe Reimold last year, or Alfredo Simon?

Overall it can do nothing but help.

When it comes to sadness, the problem is that people don't honor it for its true purpose - and yes, it most definitely has one. The purpose of sadness is to remind you that something has been lost, and it's the sufferer's job to do the mental work and figure out what that is. This points to a more extensive problem that many people have as they go about their daily business: too often, we get so distracted simply bumping around from point A to point B that we mentally check out, eschewing intentionality in favor of ticking off to-do lists and simply getting by. Ladies and gentlemen, we all know that just getting by isn't enough, and that becoming more aware of your thoughts, feelings, and motivations will lead to better decisions and overall greater satisfaction in your life.

This is a terrific idea. Especially with a team that lacks a veteran core. But regardless, reaching your peak these days means understanding the psychological aspect of the game - and maximizing your potential. Another DD move that seems to be carrying us - kicking and screaming - into 21st-century baseball.
