Yes, it's riskier because it isn't a draft situation, it's free agency situation with less leverage. We have stunk for 14 years, have little of trade value, and can't/have decided not to sign top tier free agents. So, we have this opportunity to basically buy an extra top 5 draft pick...a very valuable thing for an organization that could really use an additional 19 year old position player who's a potential stud. Of course it's easy to sign low risk- low reward guys - you can't lose much face because you've committed nothing - and that's the likely reward, too. And definitely the reward of doing nothing. I'm up for taking a risk on a guy Jim Callis says this about. "He hasn't been as hyped as fellow Cuban outfielder Yoenis Cespedes, and he can't match Cespedes' flair for YouTube promotion, but some teams believe Soler is the better prospect. He's a 19-year-old athlete with five-tool potential.
Six-foot-3 and 205 pounds, Soler has explosive bat speed and power potential. He also has plus speed and arm strength and profiles as a classic right fielder, though he runs well enough to play center. Because of his youth, he'll need some time to develop, but he should be worth the wait."

If the price doesn't get too high I think DD will be right in the middle trying to sign him. There are a lot of people in baseball that have seen him play and like him. Sign him DD as soon as you are allowed to and our minor league system will make a sizeable jump in the ratings.
