Allow Tailgating on Opening Day - Petition to MSA
mods - sorry if this is the wrong forum for this
Not to take away from all the fun and intrigue of Spring Training, but me and a friend have started trying to correspond with the Maryland Stadium Authority to allow Tailgating on Opening Day. This is a general, let you know that we have created a Facebook group for this, and the MSA has given us a contact to correspond with.
Please feel free to check it out, write anything you may want to say on the wall, and send an email to the MSA as well if you are interested in the possibility of tailgates. Here is the link:

I'm not a fan of doing it every game, or even every weekend, but I could support opening day... and playoff games

I would say allowing it on Saturdays or Sundays and Holidays would probably go a long way towards boosting attendance. Tailgating is one of the best parts of the NFL, if you could continue that tradition throughout the year in nice weather, I guarantee an uptick attendance.

I've already printed my playoff tickets so I'm hoping they allow it then.
I would just like some effort to allow for it in certain locations. It's allowed for Ravens games already, so I don't see it as not being feasible. I think if enough people rally to the idea, then maybe it will help to convince them.

I agree, but I think it has more to do with providing a fan friendly atmosphere. I'm not a parent, but I'd be more inclined to take my 3yr old to a Oriole game then to a Ravens game (I'm not actually a parent). I don't really associate tailgating with baseball but when I was in Milwaukee they tailgated all over the lot before a Brewers/Phillies game. It was pretty surreal.
As for me? Gimme my Camden Pub pre-game and I'm fine.

The people that are drinking TOO much and getting out of control and obnoxious are doing it with or without a tailgate. They are drinking on their own at home all morning, and then going to the game. If anything it might get people to not pound 5 beers in 30 minutes before gametime if they know they can show up a couple hours before, cook some food and drink some beer. The ONLY reason it's not allowed is to make them more money at the stadium on crappy food and $9 beers. A lot of people don't even drink at tailgates, but can make and bring food to hang out with their friends and kids and make it more of a trip than just showing up for a terrible game of baseball and leaving in the 5-7th inning to get the kids home and to bed.

I like the Pickles/Gino's/Sliders pre-game tailgate on Opening Day. All other games we usually don't do too much pre-game stuff. Like others have said, football is a different animal. Its once a week and you generally want your fans rowdy at a football game. At a baseball game, its a more relaxed environment. The drunks are gonna drink no matter how much the beers cost. I see no need to encourage more drinking before the games.
And for the record, I am a drinker, but I'm old enough now to use my head and have a couple beers rather than 10!

This is exactly the atmosphere that I think the Orioles and the MSA should preach. If they give you a spot to have fun with friends and family before the game, it doesn't force you to Pickles and Sliders if that's not what you want to do or where you have to go. And also, it would bring them revenue by having fans park in these lots instead of in satellite lots where the money is leaving their hands. Originally Posted by allstar1579
