Fangraphs: Orioles Farm System Ranks 25th

    25. Baltimore Orioles
Top 2011 Draft Pick: Dylan Bundy, RHP
Top 2012 Prospect: Dylan Bundy, RHP
    Org Strengths: Athletic outfields
    Org Weaknesses: Catching, left-handed pitching
Top Scout: Ernie Jacobs, responsible for Dylan Bundy and Parker Bridwell
Pretty short write-up, but Fangraphs must think that we have a pretty weak system beyond the big 3...we shall see. Interesting to see them rank Bundy #1 in the organization.

Going to go out on a limb and say that if they have the O's that low there is some combination of Machado not staying at short or Schoop not being highly regarded at work here.

Or they're Fangraphs. (I.e., lowly information aggregators and stat-hounds.)

Yeah we definitely aren't the worst organization(Astros), but I definitely agree that we are in the bottom third in any ranking system, just depends on how you rank them and that is always debatable. I do think though that crediting the scout who found Dylan Bundy as being the best scout. Not knowing our scouts, I question whether our scouting department is that bad(which I wouldn't find too hard to believe) or fangraphs needs to take the best scout ranking out of their report. I'd rate the best scout as someone finding a diamond in the rough, not someone that finds a player that a blind person in a crowded room could find. Just my 2 cents.

Yeah, not that we're more than middle of the pack (at best), but I don't really put too much stock into fangraphs.

I don't like the "top scout" designation at all...

They're fine. My point was only that they come from a specific viewpoint - which may well undervalue certain types of players. Not a big deal. I don't think our farm system is fantastic, by any stretch, but my impression is we're somewhere in the 17-20 range.
