“Want to prove you’re serious about winning? Don’t let Burnes make it to free agency. Don’t let the pitcher this team has been chasing for decades walk after one year. It’s only been one start, but I’ve seen enough.”

I think this is a make or break year for his career trajectory. Hitting is three things 1. Bat speed 2. Bat to ball skills 3. Swing decisions. He excels at 2/3. Can he he make the final leap and become elite ? Can he at least adjust slightly to take him to an .850+ well above average level?
Had not thought about this “professional hitter” phrase until reading through this thread. For me, it’s a guy who’s calling card is their bat. A hit first guy who won’t make a manager look stupid putting him in the DH role. The term makes me think of guys who aren’t good in the field or who have had injuries that prevent them from playing in the field. Someone like Michael Brantley who had a .794 career OPS and who’s first 4 years don’t hold a candle to Mounty. I don’t think @interloper was out of line at all calling Mounty a professional hitter.

At this point in time based on what I've seen to this point in 2024 (and some of 2023), I'm going to say our best defensive 2B in the origination right now is Jordan Westburg.
Both Holliday and Mateo need to get adjusted to the new position. So does Kjerstad playing 1B for that matter. (Probably Norby in the OF too.)
Give it a few weeks and they'll probably look more like they belong there.
Yep, that was a great one. Went with a bunch of high school friends, snuck out of school early. Beautiful day out in the LF bleachers. And Cal and Eddie homered, I think Dan Ford and maybe Roenicke too? And one of them was a grand slam. The first Opening Day I ever went to.
