What's so ridiculous about what he said? NM St. is known for being aggressive in the paint, and they have a knack for being able to get to line a lot. Zeller also has some problems with getting into foul trouble. I don't know why NM St. didn't go at him more than they did, when it seemed like an obvious way they could awing momentum their way. What am I missing?

Let's go over a few things:
1) NMS is 67th in defensive efficiency. They are not good defensively. I read somewhere that IU scored at a rate over 1.5 points per possession in the second half. That is outrageously efficient - and that efficiency was easily predictable heading into the game.
2) NMS entered the game 1-6 against RPI top 100. The same Southern Miss team that lost to KState yesterday beat NMS twice this year.
3) How many games did Zeller foul out of this year in a physical league like the B1G? You think a strategy from NMS (and advocated in this thread) to get Cody into foul trouble was something easily implemented and something B1G coaches didn't try every game this season? NMS did go out Cody a ton and enjoyed many easy baskets of their own because Cody stood straight up and did not contest them.
If someone thought the favored IU team was ripe for an upset based on a .500 road record or lack of tournament experience - that is one thing, but I look the points above, think about IU beating Kentucky, Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State, etc, and feel comfortable in dismissing suggestions that NMS "could have won easily".

Points 1 and 2 don't really have anything to do with my post - at all. And, in point 3, you seem to think I was implying this was something NM St. could do easily. I didn't think NM St. would win. But, I thought that if they were to have a chance, they needed to be a lot more physical/aggressive inside which is something they were supposedly known for. But, they didn't...so, it surprised me. I'm not sure why you're so defensive here...
[EDIT: Or are you saying that SG thought NM St could have won easily?]Last edited by Dr. FLK; 03-16-2012 at 12:27 PM.

Great game last night for sure. I know some people wanted to see us lose, so I'm glad they stepped up and played hard. This young team has been getting better and better as the season progresses. Lots of folks didn't believe VCU could get back to the tourney in a rebuilding year, but these guys pulled together as a team and have really played well together.
With that being said, one thing scares me right now. The last few games they have blown double digit leads and let the other team back in...if they can get the lead without blowing it in the 2nd half, that would save me some stress!

Good start to the day for me. First Cincinnati wins and now it looks like NC State is going to take care of SDSU. Awesome.

What a bizarre ending to the NCST and SDST game. Turned into a dunk show for 30 meaningless seconds.

I was working 930am-930pm so I'm glad I didn't miss much. I saw a little bit of the Cuse game at lunch and had a beer or two around 10 to see an hour of action.
