The need for Justice is minimized and I don't understand why you'd once again try to fit a square peg(Oher) into a round hole(LT position).
I get your point above about Royal vs. Ginn and I agree. But who the hell is Justice?

Brain cramp. Was thinking of Winston Justice the RT for the Eagles but actually my point applies the same to Eric Winston.

So that's why I'm not buying it when I hear the Ravens are going to be quiet in free agency and focus on their own guys.

I expected the unexpected. Like the Bernard Pollard, Vonta Leach and Ricky Williams signings last year or the acquisition of Anquan Boldin two years ago. Newsome has something up his sleeve.

It won't be sexy, but two top tackles, mainly right-side guys, went on the market Monday in Eric Winston and Levi Brown. Signing Winston or Brown would allow the Ravens to flip Michael Oher back to the blind side. Waiving Bryant McKinnie would free up some money.

Maybe it's a wide receiver and top punt returner like Eddie Royal. The Ravens need to come out of free agency and the draft with giant special teams holes filled. If there is one area the team needs to make a big improvement in, it's special teams. It's got to keep a former special teams coach like John Harbaugh up at night trying to figure out how to fix it.

So don't bet on Newsome and the Ravens staying quiet for long in free agency.

    Expect the unexpected.

Problem is that Oher didn't look good at LT and thats why he was moved to the right side. I doubt it would be any different this year.

Right. With Mckinnie at LT and Oher at RT you have average LT play and very good RT play. With Oher at LT and Winston at RT you have average LT play and very good RT play. The difference is Winston is probably going to cost much more than McKinnie. And you could make a cast that Winston is a slightly better RT than Oher but I would argue that McKinnie is a slightly better LT than Oher. Pretty much evens out in the end.

I agree with this. Winston would be a lateral and more expensive move. I don't see it happening, as they've got bigger fish to fry and I think they've got plans for Jah Reid too.

I don't think it's close even comparing Oher at RT to Winston. Winston is one of the best right tackles in the league. Oher is an slightly above average-to-above average RT. There would still be a gain with moving Oher to left tackle with Winston at right tackle. Winston and Yanda on the right side would be a HUGE advantage to us. McKinney is unreliable, and I think Oher would be able to at least match his production pretty easily. Oher is still young enough where he could put it together and still progress. At least you know Oher puts in work and will give you effort. We cannot say the same about McKinney. He could just as easily come in at 380 again this offseason.

I won't pretend to have watched him play a lot of games. But I do know he's never made a Pro Bowl( I know thats far from the end all be all of the type of player you are) and he was just cut. I don't know what his salary was supposed to be in '12 but if he's cream of the crop RT I find it hard to believe Houston cuts him or at least doesn't try to restructure his contract.

Any chance Harewood comes into the picture?

The Baltimore Sun expects the Ravens to waive LT Bryant McKinnie if free agents Ben Grubbs and Matt Birk are retained this offseason.McKinnie worked his way into playing shape last season, but was a liability in run blocking and finished as a below-average left tackle in Pro Football Focus' 2011 rankings. The Ravens have until March 18 to decide whether to pay McKinnie's $500,000 roster bonus. Mar 3 - 6:05 PMSource: Baltimore Sun

They are but not a whole lot of interest in paying him.

Hearing Ted Ginn could be coming here tomorrow.

Grubbs has an offer sheet from the Saints but it's not official yet. Ravens could try and get him done but it's doubtfull.. Also, McKinnie could be waived even if those two are not retained.

I hope we have a few tricks up our sleeve. With the impending retirements of Lewis and Reed and some other key departures this year, we need an infusion of talent at some very thin areas, namely OL, LB and S
