Check out this video of Clark Kessinger, one of the best long-bow fiddler's ever. He was 71 when this was filmed at the Newport Folk Festival in Rhode Island. He died in 1975 at the age of 78.

I had never heard of Clark Kessinger until 1992. I was writing an article for Bluegrass Unlimited magazine about his great-nephew, and National Flatpicking Champion, Robin Kessinger. After learning about his great-uncle from Robin, I decided to write a piece about Clark Kessinger, too. I had known of Robin for a few years. He owned a music store in St. Albans, WV and was one of my retail clients when I worked for Guild Guitars. I had also seen him perform at Galax Fiddler's Convention a number of times. I submitted both articles to Bluegrass Unlimited editor/publisher, Peter Kuykendall, and he decided to publish both as featured articles in the August, 1992 issue.

Thanks. That song put me in a completely different (and really good) mood. And the story is pretty cool too.
