SimCity
Always loved the SimCity series up through SimCity 4, despite the issues that it had. All the crap they made afterwards wasn't really SimCity imho.
They have a new one coming out that is supposed to be going back to what made the series great. Hopefully it lives up to that!

SimCity was always my favorite game. I recently purchased SimCity Deluxe on the Kindle Fire and have been enjoying immensely.

I'm very excited for a new SimCity. Too often, city-building games turn into RTS games where you're building your city/empire to support your army. I really like the focus of the game to be on building the city itself rather than setting up a war machine. Ubisoft has a couple games that are pretty fun. Anno 2070 is absolutely gorgeous, and I really want to try Settlers 7 out when I have some extra money.

I played SimCity way WAY back in the day. Like SimCity 1.0 The early versions sorta sucked. You'd build up a nice bunch of cities, but the people would just get angrier and angrier. Never happy with anything I (Commander In Chief) did.
That's when I (when lunchtime was ending...) I liked to play a game called "Therefore the LORD heard this, and was wroth"
Destroying citiies one by one. BOOM!!! Shriveling ashes.
Loved that part of the game!

They just announced that it's going to require internet connection at all times as the cities that are next to you are other players from around the world. Things that happen in their cities can greatly effect yours (crime, pollution, rubbish, etc.)
Not sure my feelings on this. SimCity was always my one game where I was away from online stuff. We'll see I guess.

Pretty sure I'm not going to like this game. The screenshots looked good, but the details are leaving me unimpressed.
I don't know why they can't just take SimCity 4, update the graphics, update some logic, and introduce new buildings and be done with it.

Week and a couple days away from the release date. Pre-ordered the regular version for both myself and the wife. The only good thing about the multiplayer is that we'll actually be able to play together and (hopefully) be able to have cities next to each other so we can trade and help each other out.
I am not sure how region distribution is going to work, whether you can choose your own (so you can be next to friends/family) or if it's random. Obviously I'm hoping you can choose. If that's the case and anyone else is getting this we should let each other know where we are and we can create an OH region!
As an FYI, if you pre-order through Origin they are giving $20 off your next purchase.
Anyone else decided on getting this?

Has anyone else followed the launch of the new SimCity?
Apparently, EA learned nothing from Activision's debacle over the Diablo 3 launch because they're pretty much having the same issue. The game requires an always-on connection in order to player (a ridiculous requirement for a single player game) and EA simply didn't allocate enough resources to cover launch. Players are facing multiple error messages, random disconnects and many can't even seem to log in at all.
Be careful if you can log in, as some players report losing significant portions of their cities after hours of work, because SimCity servers would randomly shut down or the game experienced issues saving to EA's cloud save function. I saw dozens of similar complaints with some light searching. Ouch.
[...]
CNET Editor Jeff Bakalar, assigned to review SimCity, ran into problems trying to connect at least twice a day since Tuesday: "I had planned on reviewing the game for launch -- and I'm not joking here -- I've yet to been able to even play the game. Once."

Game Informer's podcast did a terrific job breaking down what was wrong and what to expect of the new Sim City.

I highly recommend the listen.

Has anyone bought or played this, are the server issues fixed? I am not much of an online gamer.

I have this and play it pretty much daily. There seems to be no longer an issue with the servers as I have not had trouble connecting or having my cities disappearing or anything like before.
There are some bugs still that are really annoying. You cannot turn off disasters unless you are in sandbox mode which takes the challenge away from the game. Every time I save up for some stupidly expensive building a giant lizard attacks and destroys $250,000 worth of buildings. The recycling centres don't work. Water actually gets depleted from underneath your water towers. It is supposed to rain in order to re-up the underground water supply but it's only rained twice so my only option is to filter all the sewage my through the plant and send it back out, which of course is now causing tons of illness and medical issues because i can't get the water clean enough.
That's jsut a sample. So basically my city screams at me for something, I give it to them and then some disaster happens within minutes destroying half the other sh** I need and spent hours saving up for, and all my people are getting sick and dying from drinking their own excrement. What a lovely town I've built...
The solution is to of course build another city next to it that is great, and I mean GREAT at producing water and then buy it from them. I have a city that can do that (it has a river/lake in it so that is the only other way to have an endless supply of water where you put your facilties, besides the poo option) but it is expensive and I have to build that city up first.
They definitely have more kinks to fix but no matter how frustrated I get when a meteor strike destroys city hall or an earthquake pops up right after I feel the accomplishment of saving $180,000 for a hospital and some addons to make the hospital better, I am still playing. If they can fix the issues it would be a great game. I like that you can join a random group of people or, like me, play a private region of 16 cities that only my wife and I play.
All-in-all, it's fun but frustrating at times. I would read the forums and wait until a lot of the bugs are fixed before I get it, if I were you.

Cool Thanks. Yea I have never played sim city game but have always wanted to. It looks pretty fun, maybe I will wait a bit still. I would probably play on sandbox mode. The only thing that really bugged me were the server issues, but if they are better I may give it a shot.
