Secondly I really hate the Vick comps. Griffin is 2 inches taller than Vick, seems to be faster, and a better passer. At 6'2'', 220, he's much closer to the 6'4'' 210 Randall Cunningham than Vick. But as for hype I agree that it seems to be the label put on him. Though his workouts seem to have really elevated his status.

I genuinely think in a Kyle Shanahan bootleg, zone running, play action offense, Griffin can really really shine.
Vick 2.0 in that he can kill you with his legs but also kill you with his arm from the pocket or outside of it. That was the hype heaped on VIck after a couple of great games in '10. I agree that physically Griffin is much closer to what you want at QB compared to Vick. I actually like the Cunningham comp.

Yeah, RGIII threw the ball deep a lot with Baylor, did it very well, and did it from the pocket.

He's not considered a pocket passer by some primarily because he can run so well, rather than an actual deficiency in his pocket passing.

BTW, Vick was faster coming out of college. Not sure if he still is.

I'm not sure if Vick is still faster, either, but it still may be a close race either way. Vick's combine time (granted, 11 years ago) was 4.25, making Griffin's 4.41 look a touch slow by comparison, even though that's still quite fast.

Griffin also said, he was told it was 4.35. Although it appears I have a man crush on Griffin...I just think his athleticism is putting him a box that it doesn't seem like he's destined for (unlike Vick who always needed his legs to be effective).

On a side note, it's pretty incredible how .16 seconds is tracked. You couldn't count that time if you tried, lol.

I can, but it's not the easiest thing in the world.

What about Steve Young as a comp for Griffin - mobile, same size, passing offense in college, initially more of an athlete than a passer, etc...

I'm not saying Griffin's a hall of famer or anything, but they seem like they could be similar players.

This is exactly why we paid so much to move up to #2, because we are guaranteed the chance to take one of the two no matter what. If they do take Griffin #1, then we end up with the guy touted as the best QB prospect since Peyton. Oh darn, I hate when that happens.

    Wilbon on Kornheiser's show:

“By the way, I will tell you this,” Wilbon said, mid-rant. “It’s not like I’m following this closely, but I had the occasion over the weekend to talk to a couple of people who have intimate knowledge of what the Colts are thinking. And you and I have talked very briefly on the show about are they still considering RGIII? Tony, I’m told they are.

“And I’m told that the main reason they are is because there are people in the organization and people they consult — and now you consult all these different people about something a s important as a number one overall draft pick, a maybe once in a generation pick. And they are of the opinion, some people that are having input into this pick, that RGIII is better in the pocket.

“They have stats, they have analysis, they have information that says to them it’s Luck who is faster to leave the pocket and not be as good in the pocket. And RGIII is better in the pocket, he’s a better pocket passer, better arm. And that they are seriously still considering RGIII.”

I don't think you can drive it down these days. The top picks will all get the max deal allowed by the CBA regardless.

It won't stop them from trying, especially in the first year of the new CBA.

I think RGIII refusing to do a personal workout with the Colts tells a WHOLE lot!

He had a perfect pro day. Only way to go is down so why throw again? He knows he is a lock for 1 or 2 also.

Skins declined to work him out, so he never really had the opportunity to workout for them. I agree he probably would have turned them down as well, which makes sense. He can only hurt himself at this point.
