    What If 'Skins Are Luck-y?

Jim Irsay is spreading uncertainty about whether the Colts will select Andrew Luck in next month's NFL draft. What if the Colts instead select Griffin, and Andrew Luck falls to the Redskins? Would you be pleased, and what do you think it would do for the team?

I'd be somewhat disappointed if we didn't get RG3 but then I'll realize we got Luck. They both are two of the top qbs prospects in years and they both fit Shanny's O. It's a can't lose, really.

Colts are taking Luck...no doubt about it.

Yep. The media buried the lead a few weeks ago when Irsay was doing an interview about Manning (before he was cut). Irsay was talking about how it was a very complicated decision and that Manning would be a better player in 2012 than "Andrew."

Aside from that, Manning would not have been cut if the team was going to pick RGIII. The Colts are merely doing their due diligence, but Luck is the pick unless he gets hit by a bus or has some major skeletons in his closet.

They are, but hypothetically if they pass I'd be jumping for joy if I'm a Skins fan. You will have just locked yourself into being a playoff contender for the next 10- 12 years. You can't come close to saying the same thing about RG3.

Irsay is just improving his bargaining position and being a prima donna.

But to answer your hypothetical, I'd be pleased. They are both two flavors of greatness. I disagree with the sentiment above that RG3 doesn't have the same or very similar potential as Luck. He can win soon, often, and for a long time.

I think you underrate a lot of what RG3 brings to the table. Being 6'2'' makes a big difference. And he appears to have very much the same arm as Luck. He's not as big as Newton and that does pose some risk. But I don't think Luck is far and away that much better than RG3.

Do I think he's safer, yes. But I don't think it's as extreme as you present it.

Luck is a near lock to be a regular playoff QB. I like RG3 and think he has the potential to be the same caliber of QB but it's nowhere near as likely. Luck is as sure a thing as you can get at QB. RG3 is very raw in comparison to Luck.

They both have great skills. Everything points to Luck being the better QB in the NFL but its really an uncertainty. I don't think you can make any sweeping statements at this point. Luck is the most complete QB in a long time, but he is not a lock to be a regular playoff QB.

Phillip Rivers was strong coming out of College, he projected to be a great QB. He hasn't seen the playoffs as much as he should. And for every Rivers situation (where the team under performs) there is Tim Couch and a Ryan Leaf.

Very uncertain. Redskins are LUCKY with whatever pick they get but it is highly unlikely that Luck falls to number 2.

I'm not saying Luck is bad. I'm just saying I think RG3 is better than you're giving him credit for. I think Griffin's floor is much much higher than your giving him credit for.

I mean to say, other than being part of pro style offensive systems, and Luck being a little bit bigger in frame and size than RG3 makes you think he's so much more secure? Of those skills, in which area is RG3 lacking?

It just seems to me that he's been getting credit for being bigger than was originally thought, he's not like Vick he can be a pocker passer, I guess I'm curious what red flags your attaching to RG3 and why. Maybe it's something I haven't heard or I'm not understanding. But the more I hear, the more it sounds like all the tools are very similar. So size and potential decision making are issues, but it's not like Jamarcus Russell type comparisons are getting thrown around about Griffin's decision making.

I see more and more teams running out of Shotgun formations that look like the spread. So, is being a pro style QB as important as it was about 10 years ago? The last two ROY were QBs and came from Spread Offenses in college

In fairness, Luck has had the benefit of several years of hype, whereas RG3 has only had a one. That clearly makes Luck better.

Well it has been a recent change so that question is better asked in 5-10 years imo.
