    Reed

Says he wants to play 4 or 5 more years.

"If it was up to me, I'd be with a walking cane out there. I don't know, man. I think four to five years is a reality for me."

Not everyone agrees with me, but this guy even being on the roster impacts games. We saw what he can do in one game in Houston and he forces every opposing QB and coach to game plan around him.

If we can get a strong tackler at SS, I'm 100% on board for a few more years of Reed.

Reed is an enigma. Two years ago he was talking about retirement, not he wants to play for 4-5 more years. Hey, it sounds good to me.

Then the next day he says he is Over fifty percent sure he will play this year. Reed is a weird dude.

He is probably just saying this so he can get a bigger deal from the ravens with a bigger signing bonus. If I were Ozzie I would be trying to get that deal done soon so they can knock down his 9 million dollar cap number

I like Reed as much as anybody but he is already showing some signs of age. I don't know that 4-5 years are realistic. More like 2 or maybe 3. That being said I want him to be a Raven as long as possible.

What the heart wants and what your body will allow are two different things. He may want to play another four or five years, but he's one bad blow away from being finished. I'll just be happy if Reed plays out the rest of his contract given his neck and upper body issues.

Now we have Reed is saying he's not getting the "respect" from the Ravens that he thinks he deserves. Basically, he's upset because the Ravens refuse to renegotiate the six-year, $44.4 million contract Reed was then happy to sign. Reed is 34 years old next year and will make $7.2 million. Perhaps he's upset about the six-year, $50 million contract given to the 26 year old, Lardarius Webb, but I see this as a "prima donna" act that won't sit well with anyone.

I hate to be the one who says this, but this kind of woe is me attitude is not bonding well with me. I can't recall anyone, especially someone his age complaining about their salary of $7 million. I suspect we will extend him, but there is no way he plays that long. None

Ravens FS Ed Reed indicated in a Wednesday interview with 105.7 The Fan that he wants a new contract from Baltimore.

"I got a lot on my mind I’ve been thinking about," said Reed, who's due a $7.2 million base salary in the last year of his deal. "The truth of the matter is, it’s about respect. It’s about getting respect and it’s a business." Reed also asked for a new contract last offseason. "And I know if I’m giving my heart to football, it’s going to take a toll on my later life," he said. "My family has got to be taken care of. I don’t want to hear that I’m getting old. I don’t want to hear that." Source: baltimoreravens.com Apr 5 - 11:25 AM

I have some bad news for Ed. It isn't about respect. Respect is something you have earned for your previous efforts. Your next contract is not based on what you did in the past, rather what you will do in the future.

And regardless of whether you want to hear about getting old or not, it's true. You aren't a spring chicken and won't be getting paid like one either

I hear Reed wants to come do another interview to clear up what he said. He thinks people are taking this the wrong way.

I don't get all the Ed Reed hate. I'm not saying pay the man 96 million or anything, but this team is substantially better with Reed on it than off it. Even if he misses tackles.

With all the smart football minds on this board, I can't understand why it feels like some people are so anti-Ed Reed.

His presence in a game matters more than pretty much any other Raven. I get you can only pay people so much in a salary cap world, but I think Ed Reed goes down as very underrated as a Raven. And that includes the copious amounts of accolades he's gotten.

Reed does get a little crazy when he wants a new deal.

I dont underrate him. He is the 2nd best Raven ever, and I doubt most would disagree with that. But when he wants a new deal he hammers on it and puts it out there publicly. Handle your business quietly. The average Joe does not respond well to millionaires complaining about money.

I definitely agree, negotiating in public never goes well. In the sense he's enigmatic, I think you just have to accept that sometimes and go with it. He might say crazy stuff, but that's because his mind probably works differently and that's a big part of what probably makes him an amazing safety.
