Good to see that other people play this game around here. I got close to 1600 in season 1 but since season 2 began I've been hovering around the mid 1200s and low 1300s.
I think I have same problem as you guys. I want to learn some tier 1 champions but I only play ranked games and thats really no place to be trying new things. Anyway, if you end up playing a game together I'll be happy to join.

Once in a while you luck into being forced to try something. A few weeks ago, I disconnected in champ select and random-picked free-week Malphite (who I didn't own and had literally never played, not to mention it was my first top lane game in the last 30 I had played). I went 4-2 but lost, so I tried again and won my next game with him.

Arguably DFG makes the most sense. On sion you hit stun, shield, DFG active (30% of their health), and shield burst. That should about do it to almost anyone. There isn't a much bigger burst in the game.
Also, on the ELO Hellickson side of things, my last game featured a teammates Lee Sin who went 0/4 within the first 10th minutes. How do you even do that?
We should definitely get an OH game in. I will try and remember user names to send some friend requests next time i am in.

I only really like DFG on Veigar, although I guess I could see it on Sion. I think it's better to rush the deathcap after a couple of dorans so that your shield is really difficult to pop midgame and does ridiculous AoE damage in team fights. As AP Sion, you don't want it getting to late game.

Well I think it might be a matter of timing. If you are still in the laning phase the DFG is better. First, it cheaper so you can get earlier, second you get kage's pick which generates more gold, third it is better in 1v1 scenarios. Because it is so much cheaper (approx the cost of a wand) you can start building cap and complete that in time for the team fight phase. So for me its really an assessment of where the game is.

I tried the DFG build, but honestly, it's kind of a pain. Using an active on an item and then clicking the right spot.
I've got to say misclicking skills/items/targets is still my biggest struggle in the game. Once my screen gets cluttered I'm terrible at focusing. So I rarely play the AD carry/Mid role because of that.
I've actually enjoyed AP Sion. But I've only been messing around in normal. I should be free for a game tonight after say 8pm if you guys are interested.

Essentially, it autocasts wherever your cursor is, instead of requiring a left click. Makes it much easier to avoid misclicks, but can be tricky for skillshots if you don't have the range down pat and find the range indicator helpful. For someone like Sion, though, who is just point and click on one ability, or for characters like Veigar/Cass/Ryze who need to spam, it lets you cast a lot faster and with better reflexes.

So the new spectator mode just came out. I tried it out, and it's awesome. My stalking potential is now even higher, mwahahaha.
