Question Where can I give away my sofa?

I purchased a new living room set yesterday, which means my old sofa has to go. It's pretty big and still comfy, but it's going to be a pain to get it out of my apartment to say the least. More than likely, it will have to be lowered over the 2nd floor balcony. We got it in that way, so my assumption is that's how we'll get it out.

Will Salvation Army or a similar service help with that? Does anyone have any other ideas, or want the sofa free of charge (I live in Reston, VA)?

I'm hoping I don't have too hard of a time getting rid of this thing!

I called Salvation Army for a Sofa and two recliners. The came and got it. And carried it down three flights. So you should be good. Also Volunteers of American and Goodwill do it as well. Good Luck.

I've heard having pets pretty much eliminates Salvation Army. True?\

    Thanks, weams.

Don't know about SA's (I love the Salvation Army, btw...great org.) regs, on taking used furniture, with people that have pets, but the Rescue Mission's only criteria, is that it needs to be in good condition.

IMO, I wouldn't do CL, only because I wouldn't want unknowns in my house, maybe just somebody wanting to case the joint. Ya never know about that. At least with a charity, you know who is coming into your house. At least, I would like to think they would be of good character.

I saw a dude at Lane Stadium during a VT/WVU game with the following painted on his chest: SAVE A COUCH BURN A MOUNTAINEER.

You probably do not find the same humor in that as I do.

Not sure where, around you, that you can find this service, however, by me, there is a church that will take it. they give it to the less fortunate.
